I dont know if this is the right forum or not but my PC keeps losing the IP address. It will work for a few minutes and then it will say cant find server. If you keep hitting try again it will come back. Sometimes you have to unplug the modem and network cables and disable the LAN connection then rehook all the cables and enable for it to come back. Then it works for for another ten minutes or so. COX thought it was the network card so i replaced that. Then it still did it and they sent someone out to look at the modem and he said it was fine it has to be our computer. So now I have no idea what it could be. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

The only thing I know of that could cause you to lose your IP Address is if your DHCP lease expires without renewing.

Go to a command prompt and type:
ipconfig /all
That should tell you when the DHCP Lease was obtained and when it will expire. If it is some very low number, such as a few minutes like you said, then you would have to determine if your dhcp server is your cable modem or at the ISP. If the cable modem is proving DHCP then you should be able to go into it's configuration and adjust the lease time.

Sorry but how do I get to a command prompt. I went to the start menu and run and typed that in but a screen just popped up for a second. Thanks

You can go to to Start/all programs/accesories/command prompt.
Are they sure it wasn't the modem? Or maybe weak signal strength? I'd try taking the modem to a friend's house and see if they have the same problem. That's kind of a common sense solution though. Not too high tech.
I'm not sure if you're on a network, but if so, try connecting directly to the PC and see if you have the same problem.
I'm leaning towards signal strength.

I found the command prompt. But yeah cox said it has been getting a good signal. The lease says it was obtained June 14 and will expire June 15. Thanks
