Hello everyone, i am an avid gamer, and i wanted yalls opinion, and just wanted to talk to fellow nerds.. lol

i have an:
AMD 3700 2.2
1gig of crucial RAM
MSI RX480 (fried)
XFX Nvidia 6200 (Soon To Be X1900XTX)
Sunbeam Trio black (black)
250gig WD SATA2 3.0 7,200rpm 16mg cache
52x24x52 CD drive..
Thermaltake Silent cooler

Now, my dad said that the reason my old msi fried was because i overclocked my 3700 to 2.6 and left it their. i dono and dont care..
i am getting an new asus motherboard with the crossfire express 200 chipset. and i am getting the X1900XT and flashing it to the X1900XTX
and my old motherboard only supported SATA 1.5 and my h.d. is 3.0.. Gr.. but i wanted to know what i can do to get things gaming ready.
i wanted to know if their was anything that you could think of, or better.. for 525.00.. i know i need a new video card.. it sucks.. and i have no mobo, so thats a must.. any sudjestions would be helpfull..

Hey fish. I think it might actually be safer to leave the X1900XT as it is. The performance increase won't make a difference in any games at all.

The X1900XT is able to play all games at 1600x1200 at maximum settings. Except for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion which is the most demanding game made to date. Then on any card you will have to have it at 1024x768 if you want to keep playable frames at max settings.

So are you looking for an X1900 and a mobo for $525 all together? Just newegg it. They have THE BEST prices for US.

And your dad's probably wrong. unless you had heat problems it shouldn't have died on you. If that is a San Diego core they already run at 2.6GHz stock on the FX55. If your mobo can't handle it... maybe it just up and kicked the bucket? Or maybe it was just a low quality board?

As for a new one... try to find a DFI mobo for cheap. Those are pretty much made with overclockers in mind. If not DFI find ASUS or Abit. Word to the wise though always look for good reviews on newegg. If it has anything over 3 reviews with bad ratings steer clear. If it has anything under 10 with good ratings then I would be wary because not many have used it yet. Anything over 10 with a good rating then you're good.

And "the old my _____ can kick your ______'s @$$" thing is a little childish don't you think? But while we're at it... my system could kick both your systems' arses!!! OH, BURN!!!

That mobo looks fine. I like Abit and ASUS both the same. They are good companies. I take it you aren't using crossfire though?

And for our computers. Only if you have about a 400MHz lead on me will you surpass me. Doubles, believe it or not, doo have a clock-for-clock performance advantage over singles. It's just you would usually have me at stock speeds. But notice the overclock.

And right now, I am much better off than you with my X850XT to your 6200. when you get your X1900XT you will kick my arse all over:P

ok first if u want performance, nVidia SLI, much more stable has been around longer and has more support for it and a better chipset! 2nd off Asus A8n-SLI Delux, priced well for what it has, and that's everything, other than upgrading the proc it should be prety well up to date

Antec 900
AMD Athlon X2 4800+
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
BFG 8800 in SLI
4 GB Cosair Ram
Antec 550 Power Supply
4 500 GB Hard Drives

IMO SLI is a waste of money big time. 200% the price for 50% the performance gain. Only really a good idea if you have the money to blow. $250 for 2 6600GT cards or $180 for a single X850XT PE or X1800GTO. What are you going to take?

I can very easily and comfortably take my A64 X2 3800+ to 2.8 and 3.0GHz but she tends to start getting a little toasty and it's extra speed I haven't really needed yet. I could turn my fan speed up but 120mm fans are way loud. I just have a huge passive heatsink on it that actually keeps it quite cool for a passive solution at 2.2GHz. about 45*C at idle and 55-58*C under load. At 2.8 it hits 65*C at load with just the heatsink and about 62*C with the 120mm fan rigged on it. I had to do a little work with my dremel tool to make a new hole for the fan but it stays at about 35*C idle and 48-52*C under load. Good trade-off:P
If I turn up the fan speed it does the trick but it's very loud.

Hey just reasing back up on your thread. You fried your 3700 at 2.6? I dont believe that as ive had my cpu running at 3 at load temps of 40 degrees. Good heatsink or not im sure you wouldnt have fried it at that.

Also thats what my parents say whenever anything goes wrong with my pc. But what do they know!

Lol yer thats a nice looking system though! And as for sli it is a waste of time more trouble than its worth.
