I just finished building my computer, and everything shows up in BIOS (except a cd drive, but that doesn't matter much), so it's hooked up correctly.

My problem is installing Windows. I put it in, and you have to wait and hit enter to boot from a cd. Well, then it asks where you want to install it, so I picked my hdd, and it had to format, which it did just fine.

Here's where I have the problem. When it tries to put the system files in the installation folder, it messes up. It will say it can't find the file or something and you have the choice of hitting escape to skip it, or hitting enter to retry. Sometimes if I hit enter enough it will find it, and sometimes if I eject the dvd tray and then close it and hit enter it will find it, but after a while (at seemingly random times) it will have some error or another (usually a form of 0x0000007e or something like that; the numbers are different almost every time) and it will restart. The farthest I've gotten is 24%. Is this a disc error?

It's XP Media Center 2005, BTW. I can post my system specs if it'll help.

Ok i am pretty sure you have had the same problem as me....You have to have your CD drive set to Slave and have it connected to the same cable as your HDD(So it has to be connected in the Primary Slot....)You will most likely have to set your CD drive on some books as the cable might not reach to your CD drive when it is in the case....I know it's a hassle but you are probubley gonna install from boot once......

I don't know if I understand that. My hdd's are connected through SATA cables. Then, I have my dvd drive and cd drive hooked to my primary IDE slot.

tocool's correct,When installing XP you will be asked at some point for a scsi or third party raid driver to insert it and press f6.That would be your sata driver,it should be located on the motherboard's driver disc, you'll have to copy it to a floppy and insert it when XP asks for it.
I'm sure it's been explained more clearly,I'll see if I can dig up a link for you.

Actually, the SATA drives are either being seen as ATA by the board, or the BIOS is loading drivers for it, otherwise he wouldn't be able to even SEE the drives to format them. The problem is a read error, either your Windows disc or your optical drive are bad. For whatever reason the system is unable to read some of the files it's trying to copy. It also could be a RAM issue, but verifying the disc or optical is easier.

Well, when I disconnected my dvd burner, my cd burner was recognized. It does the same thing in both drives, to the same files, too. I'm thinking this is most likely my copy of Windows. Luckily, I can RMA it, but I'm sick of waiting! Damn.

Do I have to get those from Asus or Western Digital? Or are they on one of the Media Center cds?

And if I have to download, which ones do I need if I don't want RAID?

Those drivers should be located on the Asus cd you got with the motherboard, you will have to copy them onto a floppy disk.
