I hope this question doesn't fall outside the remit for this forum.

I've had a major crash of windows xp but have got it up and running again (with help) and have had to reinstall all my software. The PC came with a 30-day trail version of Office 2003 which I turned into the real thing by paying up. However, the full version has disappeared and I have no note of the authentication code to install it again... I think it was emailed to me and all my emails went with the crash.

Is there any way out of this, or am I going to have to buy it all over again?

So you now have the basic version installed?

You have to contact them about that, google belarc advisor next time so you can get info like the product key for all your products.

Good luck, you have to contact microsoft about it, explain to them you reinstalled, you should have the product key somewhere.

thanks, Rav.

I shall never be rude about Microsoft again (well, hardly ever). I got on the phone to MS UK in London and got through to a very helpful person who, after some non-intrusive security checks, was able to give me the installation key over the phone. I verbally embraced her over the phone in my surprised gratitude.

How do you lose your E-mails if your PC crashes?

Yep, thats impossible as the email's arent even stored on your pc, so if you check now they should be there, if not its got nothing to do with the crash, but as long as its sorted now it doesnt matter :)

Sorry if I'm revealing an embarrassing level of ignorance... I had loads of emails sitting in my inbox and some subfolders, not to mention contacts in the contacts folder of Outlook and none of them is there now. Windows was reinstalled as the solution to the problem. If they're not stored on my PC where are they stored? If I look on the webmail access thro my ISP (ntlworld.com) all I see are the emails that I've not yet read on my PC. I had assumed that they are sitting on the ntlworld server waiting to be downloaded but that once I have read them they are no longer there. Am I deluded?

rav, you are wrong about emails not loaded onto computer. if using outlook express or maybe microsoft outlook, all emails is downloaded from isp server to your computer. if using rogers yahoo(in canada) & hotmail than email still on server so can read anywhere in the world with access to internet.
