I have a Matshita UJ-840D internal burner in my laptop and a Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D external burner. I was burning DVDs earlier using Sony DVD+R's and everything worked fine - then I used a couple TDK DVD-R's I had laying around and now that I'm trying to go back to the Sony DVD+R's Nero Express tells me I need to use DVD-R's and that the DVD+R's ren't compatible. What do I need to do to tell the program to accept the DVD+R's ? Please help as this is driving me nuts and I'm trying to make 25 more DVDs for a music festival I'm headed to in Texas in the morning and I'm running out of time.

Thanx,

Chris

Do you remember doing anything special in order to use the DVD -R discs? Is this just using a saved compilation or have you tried making a new one?

There is a button for restoring default settings under the options Expert tab.

Are you sure you are using the DVD +R capable drive for your recorder?

Have you done a cold boot recently?

saltgrass...i am having the same problem with the same drive, matshita uj-840d...I have been ripping dvd's for about a year now and all of a sudden my drive won't read the DVD-R disks. I have tried many types of different media and all of them dont work. I didn't change any of the settings. any ideas on what is wrong and how i could fix it? the drive isn't bad, only a year old sony laptop, and it reads other types of media fine.

If it just stopped working, something had to change. Are you using the exact same type of media you used before, or have you gone to some with different ratings? You haven't changed any software or done any updates to your system? When you say it reads other types of media, you mean DVD -/+RWs?

Hatewar hasn't responded to this thread, but you may want to start your own so you will get more responses. When you do, post the NeroHistory log and take out your serial numbers. Maybe someone will see what is wrong.

hey saltgrass, thanks for your help...here is what happened...
i use DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter. DVD Shrink works fine. i have tried Nero, recordnow, and some others so i'm pretty sure it's not DVD Decrypter. when i put in the blank dvd, the drive can't recognize it. what's strange is that when i first got my laptop, dvd+r's worked fine, than one day just stopped working so i switched to dvd-r's and they worked fine. and just the other day they stopped working too so now i am stuck with nothing that works. i usually use sony media, but have tried maxell, maxent, staples, hp. nothing works. i didnt change anything concsiously to my computer. have no idea what's wrong.

I think I would uninstall the drive in device manager and then let Windows find it again.

If you can remove the drive, remove it and reinsert, maybe a bad connection.

novicebb, the booktype is normally done automatically and the system won't do it for a DVD-R or DVD +/-RW (assuming is isn't messed up). You can booktype an +RW, but it isn't advised.
