Also, to add to binkie's reply

Burn process completed successfully at 40x (6,000 KB/s)
Try it at 24x and see if this makes a difference.

I'll give everything a shot in the next day or so. Why would this be happening outta nowhere though? Never had this problem at all.

Probably when you updated Nero. You not the only one to have had this problem w/ Nero. Nero 6 is fine - I don't know though which version of 7 worked - if any at all - on the mp3 audio conversion. Other audio conversions like .wav are fine.

It is really strange cause when I had my problems with 7, it was with then first version. I used the Sony CD burner that came with my comp and it did not work, tried my BenQ DVD burner and same problem. I used my old NEC USB that only burns at 16x and got okay CD burns no skipping. It seemed fine with a lower speed and am not sure if it had anything to do with the USB vs internal drives.

How do I free up memory? I barely have anything running. Anywho I did an experimental burn with Media Player 10 and it burned skip free. Doesn't MP use the Nero engine?

Not always - but arniebear I think knows more about that one.
I use WMP to burn on a pc that doesn't have Nero.
If it was burning w/ Nero the difference would be that WMP is doing the conversion to audio not Nero.
I can't figure out which versions of Nero give this problem. I only tried 3 I think - 7.0.5.4, 7.0.8.2 and the last one. One friend who still uses the last version 7.2 says he still hasthe cd/mp3 problem. But all systems are different.

For the memory you can check task manager and see what's running. Or look in your system tray (bottom right) and see what's running on start up. You may have some unncessary things running that you don't use all the time.

Yes WMP uses the Nero cd burn plugin, but as binkie states, WMP is doing the conversion.
