Yeah HD COmbo isn't cheap (hardware + installation), but I plan on using this PS2 for quite a few more years to come though.
Apparently they still released PS1 games for a year or so after PS2 came out, so if that's the case it should be ok.
Same here, won't be getting a PS3 for 1 or 2 years minimum. Unless the girlfriend demands one of course... even then it's probably not gonna happen :P

With respect to ps1 games, they stopeed being released in 2003(fainitly remeber te game C-9 Resistance), whats that, 2 years after the ps2 was released? With the current high demand for the ps2, I am sure that game developemt will continue until 2008-2009, although at that point it will be like comparing SNES games to ps1 games (probably not, but u get the point lol).

Lol, I'm just glad that Final Fantasy 12 is on PS2 (took me a while to play that - had to get my Japanese dictionary out again). But yeah there's that transition period where game developers still develop games for older consoles because they aren't ready to tackle the new one yet.

I have to admit, I still occasionally fire up the old ps1, My partner brought it over with her from the UK, chiped with more games than I care to count so im yet to play alot of them. Yes I think it would be wise to give the ps3 a year or two, that way you get a revised version at a realistic price, more titles etc.
Anyway back to the topic, Im suprised by all these brands of discs that are totally different in other countries, TDK's in NZ are cheap rubbish.

A lot of the TDKs available here are fakes. I know a lot of the people who sells them on TM are from HK/China, so that's probably where their source is, and that'll be the problem... unfortunately when there isn't that many options, we are forced to live with what we have.

yes it seems they guy at dic smiths knew what he was on about, He told me the verbatims we get in NZ are manufactured by 1 of 4 companies so you never know what your getting where as the mitsi's were made by mitsi chem corp in japan only. two bucks a disc is alot cheaper than replacing a $50-$100 game so I can live with that :D

That's true. EB games have sales on sometimes, and I had a look at their DVD-R/DVD+R last time, they seem to be TY fakes, but can't be certain about that. Might buy myself some next time and see what they are.

Dnot buy media for EBGames, that is just asking to get burned. High priced, dont know the quality of the disks, and the fact you are buying blank DVDs from a dedicated video game store isnt a great idea.

@svtstang
Well here's the thing - here we don't get many options, I know it's probably asking for trouble, but it's something if I don't try I'll probably regret it (and if I tried I'll probably regret too, but heck)
@steimy
Hey steimy, sorry gonna ask you to read upwards a bit in this thread :) We (me and kiwi1) are in New Zealand, and supermediastore don't ship outside of US :( that's why we were having this discussion about EB Games
