Hi all

I have a problem playing a downloaded AVI file with video compression in XVID format. So i decided to convert it as instructed in the article "Transconding Xvids for Philips DVP642" but all i get is a 157 MB file with bad quality video and 5 seconds delay in video when compared to Audio... ie audio is playing faster by 5 secs... tried all the things... nothing works... i used to use AVIrecomp of Dr.Divx for this and they were absolutely great... but only this file is causing problems cos in Dr.Divx it gives Critical System error in few minutes time and AVI recomp gives Statsfile not found error. Also one more thing... While opeing the file in VirtualDub i get an error which says "VirtualDub has detected improper VBR audio encoding in soirce AVI File..... " and it gives only OK button and no "YES" "NO" option as suggested in some thread... What setting should i adopt for maintaing that clarity and having no Audio/Video Sync issues while playing in BSplayer or Phipils DVP642K

Kindly find the GSpot information of my XVID file in following Link

(OR) go to http://photos.yahoo.com/dinesh_r_y2k and view album "XVID issues"

Thanks in advance

Programs Needed

VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdubmod/VirtualDubMod_1_...
VirtualDubMod 1.5.10.2 build 2542
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/virtualdubmod/VirtualDubMod_1_...
LameDropXPd v2
http://audio.ciara.us/rarewares/lamedropXPd2V-3.97b2.zip

First thing we're going to do is fix the audio portion of the video that's causing the sync error.

Steps

1. Extract VirtualDubMod_1_5_10_2_All_inclusive.zip to your desktop. Afterwords, extract VirtualDubMod_1_5_10_2_b2542.zip. You will see two files, VirtualDubMod.exe and VirtualDubMod.vdi. Copy these two files and replace them with the two you've extracted from VirtualDubMod_1_5_10_2_All_inclusive.zip.

2. Open VirtualDubMod.exe.

3. Go to file menu, open video file...

4. Select the video you want to work on.

5. Go to streams menu and select stream list.

6. You should see the audio track of the video. Make sure that's selected. Then click the save wave button. This will bring up a window where you can save your audio. Name it the same thing as the movie file. Remember where it is. Once that's done, minimize the program.

7. Extract lamedropXPd2V-3.97b2.zip to your desktop. Open lamedropXPd.exe.

8. This will bring up a small window that says drop files here. Right click within the window and select encoding options. Make sure you have the following set in this window. Click accept.

9. Take the wav file you saved earlier, drag it to the window where is says drop files here. This will re-encode the audio back to mp3 with the proper bit-rate. Close the program.

10. Go back to VirtualDubMod.

11. Open file menu, open video file. Open the same video again.

12. Go to streams menu, select stream list.

13. Select the 1st audio stream. Click the disable button. This will gray out the original audio stream. Now select the add button, look for the new mp3 that was encoded. click ok.

14. Go to video menu and select direct stream copy.

15. Go to file menu, click save as. Name the video the same as the orignal. Make sure you save it in a different location. Click save. This is going to mux the audio and video back to the way it was.

16. Once that's done, test out the video. Should work properly now.

If you want to play the XviD video on a DivX certified DVD player, follow this link. Read the second post.

thanks yaar, a very apt solution, but had already got a similar solution using an article in another forum... But in future i will adopt ur method.. since the s/w versions u have suggested looks simpler in terms of GUI. Also i wanted to tell u that i had my audio running ahead of my video... Using the interleaving option, i gave many values ranging from 4-6 seconds and found atlast that 4 seconds was the lag... this is an extar info i found that for resyncing its enuuf to enter seconds...

thanks again
