I don't think that guy had his head in the right game so to speak... There were too many flaws in his method and it basicly told everyone information they already knew. Im thinking he had a chip in his PS2 and didn't know it or his DVD burner is really a DVD factory presser. All in all his information is false.

Lol, I think after reading the posts here for a while you should know that it's NOT possible to play backukps without a modchip/swap magic/MC exploit :)

He says that 90% of games work, but some types of discs (including some good ones) never work. So for us to really test his theory, we have to know which games on what discs worked for him.
Otherwise if our trials don't work, we can't disprove his theory as we might be just using 'a game that won't copy' or 'the wrong type of disc'.
I think it might just be a hoax anyway, from other threads I've read here.

Interesting to read the replies to that post and when you see the date it makes ya wonder why everyone isnt doing it by now, perhaps his dvd drive is magical or maybe he smokes crack.

Anyone had a go yet? I've only got TDKs which he says don't work. Plus when I give it a go, I'll have to try it on my mate's unmodded PS2 coz I have a chip in mine.

Lol. I'd actually be interested in trying this out when I get some time on my hand. Heck, if it doesn't work I'll still be able to use the disc cos I got a MI chip in my PS2.

Basically it's the same as we copy games anyway... so it's just misleading for newbs that think they could do this and play backups without a modchip/softmod.. they'll just be wasting their discs more than usual.
Even when we tell people how to backup games and what media to use they don't take notice half the time and still end up with coasters.. so imagine how many of them are gonna be creating coasters with that method and no modchip/softmod.

Yeah I mean I'm 99% confident that this won't work, but I'm going to give it a try when I have the time just to prove that it won't work

Same here.....yeah I suppose I could try it by turning my chip off, but I still don't have SONY discs, only TDKs, which 'apparently' don't work. So I'll probably get one tomorrow, and give it a go. I can probably afford another $1 Coaster in the name of science......or whatever you'd say it is that we're doing....

Again, if you have a chip, whatever you are burning should work with the chip turned on even if it doesn't work on an unmodded chip, so I don't see the big loss... :D

PS2Menace, did you give it a go. Your two posts were only 6 mins apart. You can't burn a game in that time.....
If you gave it a go, what game did you use?

It's BS...Plain and simple. There isn't a way around the hardware media check.. Doesn't matter what brand of disk it is, how it's burned or what game it is. The simple fact is the PS2 does a media check for a printed disk. You can't make a burnable disk into a printed one, not possible as the disk type is printed on it by the manufacturer. I've been hearing this **** from all the way back in the ps1 days. It couldn't be done then and it can't be done now. Just another kid looking for attention by telling lies. I don't know why anybody is even bothering to discuss it. If it were that easy we would have been doing it years ago, not going to the bother of fitting chips and messing about with swapdisks.
I just noticed something while I was over there as well...anybody ever wondered why this kind of rubbish is usually like a first post from some noob??.. Sad lonely attention seeking looser... I've seen so many posts like that one over the years it beggars belief that the mods on those sites don't just hit the ban button straight off... He hasn't shown his face after the first post either, just goes to prove the point.

Lol, it's called human nature :) Even though I know how the PS2 protection works, and how modchip/swap magic gets around that protection, when you hear something that's new and it might benefit you, no matter how untrue you think it is people usually want to try it out just for the sake of it :P

Quite right dan...But surely we're experienced enough to understand WHY it won't work..never mind might..
I looked into the disk-typing burners and readers do a couple of years ago..and the media checking.. I can dig out the info as to how the ps2 actually does it if you give me a day or 2, at hardware bios code level, which is what a chip or a PRINTED swap disk changes. It alters the media check code to return an OK everytime, instead of a fail.

Cool..on the wall in the office.. Must be an interesting place to work. (unlike here).I just went and added my answer over at cd-freaks. Been a member there for over a year too. Only 5 posts, but there's only so many places 'eh?.. Anyway, it's where I go when I get really really stuck, and I can usually find an answer without asking..sooo..
I hope somebody posts some more pointless stuff like this soon.. I'm in the mood now.. lol

Yeah I've been to a few forums, this is by far the best I've seen, and so I've kinda stopped going to the other places cos I can get just about anything I need from here
