I love your media guide but don't you think it's time to update it a little? There are plenty of members from AfterDawn that say your media guide is very outdated and should be retired.... when will it be updated? even the Nero pictures are not updated to the newer speed tests or scan disks! what's happening with your guide?
well they finally updated their media guide:

http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm

here is their reply to my email:
Quote:
It's updated now, and 7 pages long (8 if you include the index page).
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/index.htm

I still need to do the CD/VHS page (coming soon).
All the DVD-specific ones and general media info pages are up.

Contrary to a few forum posts I read online, I did not abandon the site.
It's 100% up to date at this point in time, although I may tweak some information and make some more minor updates in coming weeks. I don't write these totally alone, so I'm waiting for information to trickle in by a few more folks. Server problems with my previous host is why this update was not done earlier in the year.

Hey they are ragging on my Maxell CMC MagAE1's that I accidentally bought. They work fine. I use them in my DVDRecorder then take them to the computer and reauthor, then reburn on good stuff and throw the disk away. I guess in the end they really are landfill material :)

i had recently stopped into staples to get more dvd cases, and they had a sale (i usually don't buy blank media there) on 50 packs of maxxel DVD+R 8x, made in japan for $14.00. is that a pretty good deal? i bought two. they came out to be maxxel 002. i had been paying 18 something for the same thing(what i thought was the same thing, but made in taiwan) those are ritek r02. buy that media guide i think i came out pretty good.

@ihoe
yeh, when i seen that "made in japan" on there, i asked them if they had anymore in the back but no luck. all they had was the two 50 pack spindles. so i bought them both. i got kinda concerned when i started to see everywhere that the madia was going to 16x. i don't know much about firmware, but my burner is an pioneer 110d with the original 1.10 firmware. now from what i,ve been reading around on the forums. i have a sony vaio pc, is that i have an oem burner? which from what i understand means that it is not actually the pioneer 110D. am i understanding this correctly? i have tried to update the firmware, with no luck. i have ran through a spindle of the 16x with no problems, but i still would like to update the firmware. can anyone help me understand, what to do about this oem thing?

Possibly the notes on the Ritek, stating the reflectivity and degradation concerns. gurnard is a diehard Ritek defender. I got some Maxells that are Riteks GO3,G05's and they burn well. My old burned Maxells that are three years old have not shown any of these problems as of yet. I like Ritek, I am sorry to see that Maxell has taken to using CMC Mag for it's mfr though.

I also have some Ritek, Maxells, RICOHJPNs! They work good enough and I never had problems with any of those manufacturers. My old Memorex are RICOHJPNS. But, I found some really old movies I backed up, some of my first ones with DVDXCopy. They are CMC Mags.... so I watched them and they still are fine after 4+ yrs now. not bad... but I will re copy those bad boys onto TYs very soon.... don't want to take any chances. :-D

Verbatims and Taiyo Yudens are the best media you can get. My 2 cents, and I don't need a media guide to tell you that.

Hey, gurnard buddy how you doing. I am sitting here with a bar of soap in my mouth as punishment for talking potty language. I agree on TY's and Verbs being the best, but I do stick some of my Ritek Maxells in and love them too, my Plex's always give me excellent playback and scans on them. Though they are hard to find on sale, and I have not ordered the Riteks from SMS although I have been thinking about it as soon as my stash of TY's goes down a little more. But I will say those 16x Verbs burn really well.
