Are you using the same media? check the codes in the sticky, Clean your lens in your ps2 and maybe adjust it (I dont know much about this procedure but theres a thread on it somewhere, just search it)

Its also possible that the discs youve been buying have been sourced somewhere else even though they are the same brand not nessecarily the same manufactuer, does your ps2 still read your old backups or just not the ones youve made recently?.

What games are they? maybe they need rebuilding etc.. are you using swap magic or a modchip?
The more info you give us about your particular setup and how you usually burn games, what media you use etc would help us try to find a solution a lot quicker than to have to ask you all that.

i have swap magic. I tried dl'd versions of street fighter anniversary and armored core. That didnt work, so i thought maybe it was the files themselves. I tried making an image directly from a disc I have, tomb raider legend, but still had the same problem. its the ps2 not recognizing the disc, but only on the newer ones. All my old ones work fine.

Maybe the game needs rebuilding like paddymail said, give that a try.
Also back to that media question, what do you use?

how would i rebuild it? And considering I made an iso directly from another disc, would that really be the problem? Im using memorex +R. i know they say not to use them, but they have worked fine til now. I have some phillips that i should try too.

Have a look in the sticky for rebuilding. Whether you need to rebuild it depends on the size of the game, swap magic's TOC is only 4.35GB so anything bigger than that will need to be rebuilt.
And change those media while you are at it, they are not good for your laser

Yeah, rule out the media problem first.. get hold of some DVD-R from taiyo yuden, verbatim or with a ritek G04/g05 media code (probably the cheapest) and give those a try.. that's the most likely cause of the games not working. If you have others that you've burnt still working, then it's probably not a burning issue unless you're burning really slow or really fast for the media you're using.. but memorex suck anyway and even if you do get them to work chances are that they'll mess up at some point.
I haven't got any of those games that you mentioned so don't know if they need to be rebuilt or not to work with SM.. but usually for me if a game doesn't back-up the usual way of read->write then it's a sure thing that it needs to be rebuilt or worse... but that's using good media so that I know it's not a problem with that and having the whole copy process down pat.
good luck with it man

i wiped out my computer cause it was acting funny and not even data discs were burning correctly, so it must have been a burning problem. I am about to burn again, but the file i have has zip files, and after those, file with the same name, but extension .r30, .r31 etc. I beleive that before I associated them with WinRAR and it worked, but that was a while back, is the what I should do?

Ok, it's probably got an extension.. just that you can't see it as you don't have the options set right in windows.. just open up Nero or whatever program you'll be using to burn it and try to select that file.. it'll tell you if it can't..

i dont know. i use alcohol, and it doesnt pick up the file, I can load it up, so im gonna try and burn it now. It says
"Because an unsupported image file format is being used, you should manually set the track format, block size and other information. You MUST do this to record the image file.
NOTE: The unsupported image file will be burned/emulated as a ONE-track-only disc. If the image file contains multi-track data, the burned/emulated disc will not be recorded the same as the original disc."
These are the settings it give me:
data track mode 1
data track mode 1 form 2
audio track
Block size [bytes]
Image header size [bytes]
image trailer size [bytes]
[] data was scrambled already
[] data contains EDC/ECC info sections

Sorry can't help you there.. I don't use alkohol120.. only ever use Nero for burning my image files and have done for the past 18months or 20.. hardly ever a coaster :)
How about posting a screenshot of the file/folder.. and from an explorer window, go into tools>folder options>view tab and uncheck the box that says "hide extensions for known file types"
Then it might show you what the extension of the file is... alternately go into Dos prompt.. navigate to the place where you keep the file and it'll show you what it is.
