I am trying to burn DATA dvd's to free up room on an 80 gig harddrive. I can burn DVD video files, I can burn MP3 discs, audio discs... but not DVD DATA DISCS AAAAAAAAARGH...

Before I ask for help, I have used three different drives, two different brands of media, I ran the info tool and nothing is wrong, I've uninstalled and reinstalled my two internal burners, I've used an external burner... nothing works. Here is the last log file:

I should have also mentioned that I used Nero, Roxio Easy CD, UsefulUtil CD DVD burner AND the computers own CD writing wizard where you just drag and drop directly to the drive, errors on ALL of them, with ALL burners, with both kinds of media...

ugh.

My Philips doesn't burn dvd- or + R only RW and they are expensive...

The other one was a lite-on maybe, I don't know it was a no name from Staples. I couldn't figure out what brand it was I don't have the box anymore, it always just comes up as ATAPI

Since your first post you have gone from a stable version of Nero, version 7.0.8.2 to a very "buggy" version 7.2.0.3, heres my take on that
Nero API version: 7.2.0.3 and 7.2.0.3b

These latest versions of Nero are full of bugs, I recommend you uninstall, run this clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install 7.0.8.2 a more stable version from here

As you can see this version really chews up your memory.

Again...slow burn to 4X

Hey, I didn't get a chance to read your last post before I ran a clean tool on my own and I got one single layer dvd to burn successfully but it failed right at the click of "burn" on a dual layer for my second burn... I will follow your instructions, I forgot to save the last error log, I'll be back.

Nothing is working, I cleaned, I reinstalled. I'm thinking this is a deeper issue than Nero because I can't do it on any program I use, what in the world could be causing this? Please Help!!

How much free space do you have left? At least 15% to do a system defrag? Run a disc cleanup too. Run a virus scan and spyware scan.

Did you free up memory like Gwen suggested?

Yeah, I'm going to defrag now, but I have recently, I also use the 1 click maintenance prog, boost xp, registry mechanic, and window washer... My computer runs like the day I got it almost five years ago... I can't figure out what the heck is causing this.

It looks like you are trying to burn the same files in both logs (same size so just a quess). Have you tried other files? (non cd or video)
I defrag at least weekly. And all the other stuff weekly at least too.

Any change since this problem started?

Might be time to do a chkdsk too.

I'm having some strange problems all around all of a sudden with my computer, folders are taking longer to open, defrag took forever to analyze and it's generally being a pain in the neck. I have to run a virus scan I think but still why would only certain capabilities stop workin on Nero and burn progs in general?

Yes I tried different kinds of files and even removed them from their original folders to reduce the file names by putting them directly in from the desktop, it's just getting weirder and weirder haha.

Some of your files could be corrupted - something's eating your memory up too. Could be a few things actually. So start with the maintenance bit.
Run the virus and then a sypware scan.
You can also check the hard drive (chkdsk) for errors and have windows repair them. May take awhile so do the other things first.

@Binkie7, Karen one other thing I have noticed about using Nero 7.2.0.3 is the high memory usage, most logs I have read they are up around the 90% mark, it's a real "dog"

Note first log using 7.0.8.2= 45%
Using 7.2.0.3 now using 93%

Good point gwen - guess it depends on the specs too I've seen others w/ 512 ram and it uses less but still high.

@Dunsky,
Looks like Gwendolyn is on the right track. I definitely would free up some memory or add some. And by all means run a Virus scan.
A complete one. Go to www.pandasoftware.com
and scan your entire Computer for free. I would also remove Roxio. Something is definitely using a Huge amount of your system memory. Running BOTH these, (Nero & Roxio) would use a lot of RAM. Perform the Full System Virus scan too. Also a Spyware scan. Use a registry cleaner like this Very Good one: "Crap Cleaner", after you remove Roxio, perform your scans. I would get your system to at least 128 megabytes of FREE physical memory. You can get the registry cleaner at www.crapcleaner.com. Use the scan for issues option.
