Greetings. I just purchased a new Dell Dimension Desktop, with the Optiarc (now Sony-NEC Optiarc) ND-3570A DVD dual layer burner. It was equipped with Sonic software (ie MyDVD, RecordNow, etc), which I promptly uninstalled. I then installed Nero 7.0.1.4b, which has worked well in past experiences. I have encountered a "burn error" message each time I have tried to burn any CDs, regardless of manufacturer (Sony, Verbatim, Memorex). I have already installed the latest firmware updates for the DVD-Rom drive (TSST Corp); no such updates for the Optiarc drive are available. Any help in unraveling this issue is greatly appreciated. Here's my error log:

Nero Version: 7.0.1.4
This version of Nero is "buggy", uninstall, run this clean tool http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and install this more stable version 7.0.8.2 http://www.filehippo.com/download_nero_7_premium/?845 (dont be tempted to upgrade to 7.2.0.3/b)

Try slowing to 24/32X

Still checking for firmware details.

No problems, stick with the Nero version you have now 7.0.8.2 and dont be tempted to upgrade at the moment as the later releases are "buggy"

i have a similar problem with the same dvd burner and Nero 7.
all burns fine except when i try to burn a cdrw or dvdrw and i click on "verify" after it burns successfully I get a read or write error.
This seems to happen all the time and i have changed manufacturer media.
I had the philips dvdr/w burner before the optiarc one because i first thought it was the burner so Dell sent us a new one but i am getting the same problem. It has no problem verifying "r's" just rws.

My question is I have the Nero 7 ultra edition 7.0.1.3. If i do the uninstall then run that cleanup program, and install this premium edition will i still be able to use my liscense code sine the one i have is for the ultra edition?

thanks

Ultra and Premium are the same in relation to features, do as instructed above and insert your serial number when requested and things should be OK.

well i did what you said above and downloaded the 7.0.82 version
Uninstalled the 7.0.13 version and used the cleanup tool- got nervous for a second cause it said it was a demo. I put in my liscense number and it installed fine. It also seems alot faster than the other version. I tried to verify after a cdrw burn and now it works. Hopefully it will stay working.

The only thing i find strange is it will not allow me to burn a .zip file. whynot? If i open the file it burns it fine but it will not allow me to put in a .zip file. I do not know if i had this problem before, this is the frist time i tried to put a zip file on

I believe a zip file has to be unzipped before you can burn it.

Nero has done some really weird things, they release new versions that contain bugs...rather slack really so when we find a version that works we usually recommend it.

Nero should read this forum so they make note of problems. I have not received an email back from them yet. Also you have tested the newer one and find that it is buggy too?

I like Nero over roxio because i thought (as of version 6 at least) it was the best burning software and the most stable software out there.

After this version I am not that sure anymore.

got to questions when i DVD Shrink after using the dvdfabdcrypter Nero7 ultra i get those same error messages i would go for the Nero 8 you suggested but than i have it claim pefectly unused new blank dvds are not blank it asks to erase so i click yes and it does for a coupel seconds than ejects it i try to erase the dvd disc and surprise find i can't cause it claims the dvd rw is either corruppted or unusuable this has been going on alot recently. my questions is one this Nero patch you mentioned is there a serial creator for it also is there away to get the burner to erase the so called defective discs so they can be used for other things. also is there any version of Nero that will work with DVD Shrink that don't mess up good blank discs and lets you make your copies i mean for months no problem now it seems everything i try to do is being messed up either it says burn error, cd created with no fault but won't play i mean i use meorex dvd rws any help would be great sorry for my spelling
