hi guys
i m really confused
i didnt know the difference between ide and sata
so i purchased sata hdd - Seagate 80gb
and now i have problems
thing is my master ide (main) burned so i have andother ide that doesnt have windows on it
it has only has music, videos... and it's corrupted so i cant install windows on it just keep files
so when i connected new SATA hdd - bios cant find it
so do i need to buy sata controller raid card
or sata II controller
i dont know anything about it so if anybody can help me plz.

btw my motherboard has built-in support for sata
but it says only for 1.5 gbps but i have 3.0 gbps
on my hd it says i can put jumper and limit it to 1.5
but i dont have a jumper

see if 1 is not being used on motherboard. do you have any old computer cards laying around that might have jumpers on them?

i have only 1 red jumper next to sata ports but computer doesnt work without it
and no, i dont have any at home
i can look in comp stores but i m not sure they r selling em
btw if i'll make it 1.5 instead of 3.0gbps
is perfomance would be worse than it should be on 3.0

and bios would find my hard drive
coz my mobo only supports 1.5gbps?
in my mobo manual it says:
SATA RAID
build-in VT8237 supports 2 serial ATA devices for the highest data rates (1.5gbps burst) with RAID 0 & RAID 1
does it support my hard drive

well, first i dont know how to turn raid or watever it is
and also i dont have xp installed on old hard drive and i cant install xp on it, coz it is broken and i keep only videos, music on it

i aint got windows
my master - notmal hard drive had windows on it (it was ide)
but it burned - i dunno why and i had only broken one left (also ide) - that doesnt have windows on it
so now i bought a new hard drive to install windows on it
i described it from the beginning
so there is no chance i can get it work

no dude i just bought it . look
first my question was do i need to go to bios and change there something so it would detect my new sata hard drive
and then conversation went to somewhere else
so my question is after i put jumper on
what do i need to enable or disable in bios so it would detect it

when i go to bios it only says IDE channel 0,1 ...
nothing bout sata

so how do i install it in bios

what does the motherboard manual say as should find something in bios about sata which has been disabled if were using ide.

yes jumper worked
i set it to 1.5gb/s
and there is nuthin needed to be changed in bios
