You know how theres the premodded PS2 where you can play burnt DVD's of original playstation 2 games (owned of course). Can you do something like that with the Nintendo DS? (The newer slimmer one). I'm asking cause I know all about PS2 modding but I am a huge newbie when it comes to the Nintendo DS. I had the first version of DS but then sold it. Now I want to get the slimmer version of the DS but I don't want to get it unless I can mod it or I can play backup copies of my games. Any ideas or websites would be great.

While you can't find a premodded Nintendo DS, you can purchase a PassMe and a flash cart to play DS back-ups. No modification is necessary on DS unless you don't want to use a PassMe, in which case you would flash a custom firmware known as FlashMe onto the DS.

Which is better? Pass me? Or a custom? And will either one play original DS games (that are backups). I've noticed there are other backup tools like NDS SuperPass Key for DS ROMS and other similar ones and I was told they were all the same and do the same function. Will any of these work on the newest DS model (the second version?) Also, how do I get the DS roms from the original games onto the black DS cartridges?

Only the newer PassMe solutions like the Passcard3 (M3/G6), SuperKey (Supercard), and Max Media Launcher (Datel) work with the DS Lite. Many of the older ones will only work on the old DS models.
Essentially, the biggest difference between PassMe and FlashMe (custom DS firmware) is that one is external while the other is internal. Also, FlashMe can remove the health warning screen, protect your DS from being "bricked," and some other features I'm forgetting at the moment.
As of now, the only way to get DS back-ups is off the web, as there aren't any consumer devices capable of backing up Nintendo DS games straight from the original cart.
For a better idea of how flash carts are used, visit ISO-420 and read some of the reviews since it'll give you a better understanding of how it all works as well as give you an idea of what cart you might want to purchase.

I read it. And it looks like the Max Media Launcher is the very best. It had no negatives and nothing hands out of your DS and it works for the DS lite too. Only thing I'm confused about now is how do I get my legitimate backups off the web and onto a Nintendo DS cartridge? Do people sell online DS cartridges with a card reader or something to send the game(s) to the cartridge? Also, does using the Max Media Launcher void my warranty at all?

While the MML is great, it doesn't work with some of the flash carts, nor does it support sleep mode (unless you modify it). PassMe won't void your warranty, however FlashMe will.
As for flash carts, you'll need something like the M3, SuperCard, or EZIV Lite. These are all SD and/or CF based and you transfer games to them by storing them on either a SD or CF card using a computer. Some of them come with card readers for their respective media (EZIV Lite comes with a SD card reader). If you get something like the G6, then you'll be using a USB cable to connect the cart to your PC.
A typical purchase would be a Passcard3, M3 miniSD, a miniSD card, and a card reader. The Passcard3 allows the DS to load DS games from the GBA port, which holds the M3 miniSD.
Read over the M3, Supercard, or EZIV reviews to get a better idea of how games are loaded.

That all sounds good but doesn't the MML fit inside the DS so nothing is ever sticking out of it? How do I load it actually. Is it like a boot disc for the PS2? Put it in, then swap it out and stick in my compatable flash cart? And since you said it's not compatable with some flash carts what are the carts that it is compatable with?

The MML is the same size as a DS game. DS flash carts plug into the GBA port on the DS, so there is no swapping involved. What should happen is that when the DS tries to load the MML as a game it redirects it to the GBA port and allows you load DS games off of the flash cart.
The MML works with the M3 and Supercard, but not the EZIV Lite. However, the SuperKey (Supercards' DS game sized PassMe) works with the EZIV Lite.

So if I had the DS Lite, MML, and the Supercard I'd be all set and ready to go? With both of those things, the MML and the Supercard, I will still never have anything sticking out of the DS correct? And with the Supercard I can put my SD disks in it (The 1GB, 2GB, 4GB etc.)? If so, then isnt the Supercard better than the M3? And if I had a 1GB SD (Gigabyte not Gigabit). How many games could that store (about, cause I know they are all different sizes).

Yeah, that set-up will work fine, but the Supercard is going to stick out of your DS. As far as I know, the only ones that don't are the G6 Lite (4 gigabit) and the EZIV Lite TF (microSD).
The M3 truly is the best SD adapter for DS, the only downside being it's price. The Supercard's downfall is that it has slowdown with GBA games, and I'm sure there's something else I'm forgetting. As long as you don't care about GBA games, then by all means get the Supercard if that's what you want. You may want to take a look at the EZIV Lite as well since it's cheaper than the Supercard but handles GBA games much better. The only downside with the EZIV Lite being that it doesn't have a RTC (real time clock), meaning GBA Pokemon games (maybe a couple others) won't work on it properly whereas any other game should work far bar games such as Yoshi's Topsy Turvy, Boktai, and WarioWare Twisted.
As for SD storage, some of the flash carts are limited to 2GB, but I don't remember which one it was. As for game sizes, they can range anywhere between 5 megabytes (Big Brain Academy) to 115 megabytes (Bleach DS), so the number of games you can fit is completely dependent on game size.

Ok so just to make sure of everything before I buy:
DS Lite
MML
M3
That's it. Is that right?
Eh....What do I do about CF or SD? So the M3 takes both of them? Or are there 2 different M3's? One that takes each card? And which card can have the most memory? The CF or the SD? And are they both the same speed?

Would that be compatable with the DS lite and MML? Is it the same as an M3 (or similar to it?) And does it stick out?
Also, theres so many selections for an M3 on that site, which one should I get?

Yes, a MML and M3 will work with a DS Lite. I will say though, that unless you're buying the MML straight from Datel, just get the Passcard3 since it's the same thing but $10 cheaper. Generally speaking, the MML is $30 everywhere but Datel's official online shop (CodeJunkies), where it can be purchased for $20.
Since you're worried about size, stay completely aware from CF. You're going to want miniSD or microSD instead. The smallest M3 has is a miniSD version, and these do in fact stick out of the DS Lite since they were designed with the original DS in mind. Like I mentioned before, everything but the G6 Lite and EZIV Lite TF will stick out of the DS Lite. Also, I'm pretty sure the largest you can use is 2GB, regardless of what card type you use.
Lastly, stay completely away from all NeoFlash products. They're a waste of money.

That sounds good. Thanks for all of the info. I think I'm ready to go it's just I noticed you said that the G6 wont stick out of the DS. Does it come with a permenant size or can I stick a memory card in it? And is it better than the M3? Cause with the MML and the M6 I won't ever have something sticking out of the DS lite.

The G6 Lite utilizes 4 gigabits of flash memory, which equates to about 512MB. On the plus side is that it's faster than the M3 and you won't have to worry about slowdown. It should also have better compatibility. The trade off is the lack of space due to the cost of flash memory.

Ok to sum it all up. I am now going to get this:
DS Lite
MML
EZ4 Lite TF
(And then of course I'll have to get a MicroSD.)
I believe this is it. So with all of this, I can take legitimate downloads (backups) of DS and GBA Games off the net and play them with good speed and functionality. And at the same time, nothing is ever sticking out of my DS lite. Let me know what you think.
Eh...I just did some reasearch and found out that the EZ4 Lite TF is on pre-order and the G6 hasnt even come out yet. Is this true? If so, doesnt that mean no matter what, somethings going to stick out of my ds lite?
I just forgot about how the EZ4 Lite doesn't have a real time clock anyway. There are so many positives and negatives with all of this stuff. I've narrowed it down though. I know for sure I'm getting the DS Lite and the MML. Now I just have to figure out the other one. If the EZ4 Lite TF cant tell time/and or isnt available yet and neither is the G6 it seems like I should go with the M3. Which can tell the time correct?
And with the DS lite, MML, and the last thing I need, can I use action replay for the DS with it or are cheats out of the question?

It's not that it can't tell time or anything. The Pokemon games on GBA are the only games that use an RTC as far as I know, and they only use it for timing when day and night occurs during gameplay. Basically, only about 5 games use. DS games utilize DS hardware instead, so unless you plan on playing GBA Pokemon games I wouldn't worry too much about it.
Also, only some of the MMLs work with EZIV Lite, since there are apparently different MML revisions. However, as of 6-22-06, the EZIV kernal now supports all current Passcard3 and SuperKey revisions.
As for where you can buy, the only site that I know has both the EZIV Lite and G6 Lite in stock is Winsunx. My order just arrived today after a week of waiting, and I've just finished installing FlashMe on my DS. Once I'm done getting used to it, I'm going to post about my experiences with both the EZIV and EZIV Lite in that topic Boki2002 made.
As for cheats, I'm pretty sure you can't use Action Replay with it. That's not a problem though, since cheat support is usually supported by the software for most flash carts and adapters.

So is the EZ4 Lite and G6 in stock? Or are they not out yet? And if I did get the EZ4 Lite and tried to play a pokemon game, what would happen? The G6 doesnt have the clock problem does it?

After checking their site, it looks like they ran out of stock and are taking pre-orders for when they get more. I just bought a EZIV Lite TF last Saturday, and I know they had both of them for sale at the time.
If you tried to play it, it'll give you a message along the lines of "the battery is dead" and something else. It'll work, but you won't be able to grow plants or some of the other features that rely on it. For a better idea of what happens, load up Visual Boy Advance and try to play it.
I think the G6 has a RTC, but it doesn't list it as a feature on Winsunx so I can't be certain. Also, if you decide on a G6 Lite make sure it's the regular one and not the Pro, since the Pro doesn't support GBA.

They're cheaply made and have poor compatibility to boot. Also, the price isn't justifiable, especially when the M3 is a far better solution than anything NeoFlash has to offer.

It means you have firmware revision 5. This was only relevent before third generation PassMe solutions were developed. As long as you get a Passcard3 or something similar, then your results can be ignored.
