yo

-I burned in a Ritek (2nd Class) sometime ago (like 5 months) Fahrenheit. It worked really cool, but i finished it in like 1 day and then I never played it again. I tried playing today but it didnt boot. So i thought this was because of the 2nd class media.

Recently i saw in a thread that if we rebuild and then burned the games at half the certified speed of the DVD that it would work like the original one. I rebuilt Fahrenheit following this steps: Extracting LBA, Extracting Files, Rebuilding Files and Rebuilding LBA.

Then I burned it at 4x speed in a 8x speed Verbatim. But it didn´t boot. I got a black screen....

-I got another problem.. I rebuilt TrueCrime Streets of NY and burned it at 4x in a 8x verbatim as usual. and i used the NTSC2PAL patch with the P/N selector. When I select PAL with Y-fix only the movie at the begining works. the rest is all black and white with the screen all messed up. So i just boot the game with the video mode set to PAL. yeah the Y position the screen was soooo messed up, but i really didnt care so i just got on playing. right in the beggining of the first scene (where the main character talks and all) the sound came first then the animations and the subtitles. you know he talked, but only like 20 seconds later i could see the guys lips moving

all help is apreciated and thanks in advance.. =)

that might be both, lag like that can be the laser not spinnging at a constant rate, which everything can get out of sync, or the burn might have done that, try reburning the image.

well maybe that was a better burn or the disc was cleaner. I have a backup of hitman blood money and the laser now makes these loud noises that i dont like but only happenes with this one game. Thats all i know so if someone else could help, i have no more ideas.

the disc you burned fahrenheit to may have degraded, also your laser could be havin issues.

do all your other games work ok?

The first disk where i burned fahrenheit into is all messed up now. It was a 2nd Class media. I´m too lazy to check the ID now. I burned that game like ages ago, so it must have degraded.

But then I burned it again after rebuilding and it didn´t work. As I already told you guys, I burned it at 4x in a 8x Verbatim. I rebuilt it because I thought that the loading times could get better. I know this game doesn´t need rebuilding, because when I first played it, it worked good, but since I burned it on a crappy DVD it stopped working some days ago.

Maybe I´ll try burning it again without rebuilding. I just think it´s strange that a rebuild game doesn´t work when the same game without beeing rebuilt works...

edit: I forgot to mention that I´m using SwapMagic 3.6 with magic keys and all my other games work ok. Now I always rebuild games before burning and all of them got better. Including games like ResidentEvil4 and BattleField2.

firstly does that game need to be rebuilt to work with swap magic because if it doesnt you should NOT rebuild them. original games have dummy files in em to push the data to the edge of the disk so the disk can be read better by the ps2. so first ccheck if the game needs to be rebuilt.
Also what is the media ID of those verbatims because there are some verbatim cmc mag's (extremely poor quality) floating around. Reply with the media ID.
You also mentioned you have used memorex dvds in the past. since memorex dvd's are extremely poor quality it puts great pressure on the PS2 laser to read those disks and wears the laser out, also if you constantly play scratched games this also wears the laser out
and if a game that doesnt work that worked before - this is definitely a laser problem unless the disk is scratched.
hope this helps, post the media id of those verbatim discs

Yeah, but i saw in some post somewhere that if we rebuild the games (even if they don´t need to be rebuilt) they have better loading times. So I´m just gonna try burning Fahrenheit without rebuilding it. Thanks.

mub6 is right...you don't want to rebuild every game. Just the required ones needed to boot with Swap Magic.

As far as cleaning the laser, use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol (isopropyl) on it. If that doesn't help, you might need to adjust it. Before doing this, make sure you mark where it was at.

@ jamaal - naturally.. duh, mub6 is ALWAYS right.
hehe jus kiddin,
told yu that would fix it
the only games that should be rebuilt (even if you have a modchip)iv heard are 'EA' games.
apparantly they work better, so they say.
I tried rebuilding my fifa 06 and it seemed to work when it previously did not
