Hi,
I would appreciate if someone could give me some assistance with my query. I would love to watch a movie in my lounge, but somehow it is never successful.

I use WinAvi to covert DivX and other files to dvd format. Then I use Nero Version 7 to burn them onto a dvd. However it is always black and white on dvd. I am aware of NTSC and PAL, and have tried to change it in Nero to match PAL (i assume it applies to Australia. I am not sure if I did it correctly, but it didn't change much. When I burn DVD I use Nero Express application. I open the video folder and add all files. It does burn the movie but the picture is very bad quality and in addition black and white.

Could someone please advise me if I am doing the correct thing, or if a step is missing? Thank you in advance.

When I convert (PAL to NTSC in my case) I run Nerovision Xpress
Click 'More' and 'Default Video Options' to select NTSC (PAL) as default.
Then I select: 'Make DVD' >'DVD Video' >'Add Video Files'.
Load the VOB(s), click 'Next' until you get to the screen 'Set Parameters for Burning' and I write it to the hard disk.
Now I have the dvd files in the format I need (NTSC/PAL) and use 'DVDShrink' to look at the results before burning to disk. The results I look for are audio/video in sync. before I go any further.

Thank you both for the advise!

1. Alkohol, just to make sure I understand it well. Are you suggesting to do everything with Nero - and not to convert the file with WinAvi to video file? I have tried to follow the instructions you've created, however at the start the option of 'Make DVD' wasn't available on my Nero Version, so I have dowloaded the trial version again and will try soon again. Why would the option be missing?

2. When I add VOB Files to Nero and burn it, why is it black and white on my TV? What should I do to try to correct it?

3. Is it possible that movies I download in AVI, etc. files (approx 700-900MB can be converted to a very good quality file, that is actually pleasant to watch on a dvd? All the movies I watched by now had very poor quality.

My questions might sound a bit funny for the experts, but I am only a starter in this process and would like to get things explained a bit better. I would appreciate if someone out there could take a minute to explain the procedure to me.

Thank you all very much.

Both myself and alkohol use the same method, we do NOT convert the AVI files, just drop them into NVE and let Nero do everything.

You could try ConvertX, it's a trial version and leaves a watermark on the top of the screen, heres the link, it will convert and burn.

Thanks.

I have tried CovertX. It is very easy to use but the picture quality is very bad and the watermark is a bit annoying too. When Nero coverts it, would the picture quality be better?
