I have 2 ps2 from the slim line, both of them are new.
I always record my games with slow speed and with excellent media.
But i don't know why the f****** laser keeps making noises specially on games that require lots of loads in game, for example, hitman blood money, god of war, sw battlefront 2, and battlefield 2 ( this last one is chaos even in the menu)

My question is since both ps2 do this, the problem resides probably in the slimline model, so will rebuilding games improve performance? less noise, less freezes and brakes?

Oh and i use swap magic 3,6

The games do work fine the problem is the noise that the laser makes reading them its huge.

Some people say that if you rebuild games it does improve performance.
You should also burn at half the certified speed.

For example: I rebuilt BattleField2 and burned it at 4x in a 8x Verbatim and it works without any problem.

Did the same with Brothers in Arms, Driver Parallel Lines, and ResidentEvil4 and everything seems to run smoothly.

However, I did find a problem with Fahrenheit when I rebuilt it, because it didn´t boot. I haven´t tried burning it without rebuilding to se if it works fine, because I´m too lazy. Maybe I´ll try someday.

So yeah. I think that rebuilding games improves them (at least at the loading times).

I also have the SlimLine PS2 (v12) and I also have SM 3.6 and I had no problems with the noise yet.

The V12s are known to have problems with laser, what version do you have?

I'd try to use better media: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/240341

Also there's a link in my sig. on how to burn games using DVD Decrypter, have a look at that :)

What i find is that when i open the console the laser frequently moves from track to track, from the center and out, and does that constantly, but with original games it doenst do that.
Some games i notice like blood money make a lot of noise because of the music, while the music is playing the laser keeps on going ksss ksss kss kssss ksssss ksss if you know what i mean, and then when the music stops before the next one starts there is some peace.
Today i burned a dvd with godfather and the game didnt need rebuilding but i did it anyway, and i actualy dont heard noise except on the animated sequences.

Battlefront 2 is in tdk media with good id, i dont remeber but it was G05 or something like that and the game freezes a lot. And resident evil is also in tdk and it works fine.
I use some ridisc xtreme from ritek +R and verbatim ocasionaly.

Well that sounds like a media and burn problem to me to be honest. Do you have a laser fix in it? also what media do you use?

I have a philips and use tdk,ridisc,verbatim
The burning process is flawless and i also have borrowed games that dont work verry well, and some that do, and as i said some of my recorded games work fine, some dont.
I burn at 2x speed, i burn them on dvd-rom format. Dont take me wrong most of the games work fine but some of them give the laser a hard time and i am afraid it might damage it. Then il have only another ps2 left :P Oh and the other ps2 doesnt read the god of war that i burned and works ok on the ps2 that im using. And they are exactly the same model.
Well if it is a burning process what can i do to improve it?

I still think that you should burn at half the certified speed though. But that´s up to you...

At least I burn 8x certified media at 4x. I don´t know if you should burn 16x certified media at 8x...

Maybe you should try 8x since everybody says that burning at half the certified speed is better.

I also thought that burning at 2x was better, but that was before my NFS: MostWanted went nuts and always lagging.

16x media for ps2 games isnt that good, infact it causes lots of extra stress on the ps2 for some reason. get some verbatem 8x and burn at 4x some games that are constantly loading need to be burnt faster, you could even try burning those 16x discs at 4x and see how they go.
As vegeta86 said NFS MW needs to be burnt faster or it lags.

What brand are your 8x DVDs?? I'd just leave those 16x for burning other things (data backup, movies etc) and get some 8x DVD-R for your PS2 :)
