What happens to the ISO file after it is rebuilt? I mean what is removed or compressed to make the ISO smaller than the original?

It depends on the game - for some games dummy files are removed to reduce the size (so that swap magic can read them), others can be rebuild so that it fits onto a DVD5 disc (e.g. GT4), this is done by reducing the resolution of the FMVs (you can't really tell the difference anyway)

Thanks I was just wondering as I have just finished rebuilding my first 5 PS2 discs.

I do wonder however that I have a v12 slimps2 with a dms4Pro and laser fix. Why is it that I still must rebuild some games that only SM requires to rebuild.

I am no where near your level dan168 but I have successfully rebuilt GOW on my first attempt at any rebuilding methods.(Not trying to sound conceded just proud of myself.)

I don't usually rebuild games, only unless it's a DVD9 then I rebuild it to a DVD5, cos DVD5 is a lot easier for the laser to read.

I don't have GOW but I heard you have to rebuild it... I'm not sure if you actually NEED to rebuild it if you have DMS4 Pro, or is that just a thing for SM3.6 though...

If you have a dms4 installed in your ps2 you don't have to rebuild any games. The dms4 is what I have in my ps2 and is the only chip I've used to install other ps2's. With a mod chip you can just make an iso of the original and burn it to a dvd. That's it... you're done. It's the people who use the Swap Magic that have to rebuild some of their games.

kable: the only time you need to rebuild when you have a chip is when the original is on a dual-layer and won't fit on to a normal DVD5 (such as god of war).

i think with the dms4 you can burn original DL discs straight on to a blank DL and the dms4 will boot it. i think maybe the matrix infinity does it too, not sure.

apparently it's better to resize to a DVD5 anyway to save stress on your laser.

Ya, with the dms4 you can play dl's. I've got God of War backed up on a verb dl and have played and finished it. Didn't have any reading/laser problems. That's on a v7 with a 400c laser.
