My DVD writer is an LG Dual Layer 16x (dont know if this is any good because im kinda new to all this) and i am using 4.7gb Imation DVD-RW disks (4x).

I used DVD Decrypter to read the ISO off my copy of Kingdom Hearts 2(NTSC version) , everything went fine and i then copied the ISO onto my blank disk at 4X speed.

I went and used my swap magic like usual on my PAL PS2, then when i inserted the Kingdom Hearts 2 copy i made, nothing happened, the disk just started spinning REALLY SLOWLY and just couldnt start up? Anyone know the problem?

Just ask if you need more details, thanks guys :D

Also i tried the exact same thing with my copy of GTA : LCS and the same thing happened

Lite-On has a pretty good rep in burners so thats not the problem, but Imation DVD-R's are branded OPTODISC, so they technically are not worth a darn. Get some Sony DVD-R's and you'll be ok. RW Disc strain your laser even more than usual so I'd stay away from anything re-writable.

The problem is most likely the -RW discs. Only a very small percentage of PS2s can read RWs. Use good quality DVD-R. ie: Not Imation's. RITEK are good, never had any problem with them, as are Verbatim. A lot of people rate Taiyo Yudens as being the best, but personally I don't rate them at all. RITEK are far better in my opinion, with a much deeper color dye, that performs well.

And there's nothing wrong with OPTODISC dye now either, as they now use the industry standard CCE-type dye, same as Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim etc..

agree, avoid buying DVD's on Ebay. You may be fine but i just do not trust them. Especially when you can get them from Supermediastore.com at really good prices and get a 100% guarantee that they are authentic.

Also Imation are very cheap as mentioned above and never use RW discs
I also avoid 16X discs as they give many people problems.

well it's not really the problem of whether the disks are sealed or not, they could be fake from the factory, I'd actually look locally if you live in UK

i did this for someone else once, but i do not plan to again so i will let you
go to any search engine and type "Blank Media UK"
there are plenty of online shops in the UK too
or hope someone here who is in the UK can lead you to one.

"rip-off Britain" is just as cheap as, if not cheaper, than the US for blank media if you look in the right places.
As dan168 says, look locally in a PC specific store (except PC World). These small businesses are usually cheapest. If you go looking in the likes of Argos, Comet, Currys, Woolworths etc.. then you will pay over the odds. Plus, they don't normally stock the better media like RITEK.

hehehe, not sure i agree with that, unless you can give me some insight in as where i can get 100 ty's for like £15???,because thats what they can pay in the u.s!!!,...it'd be much appreciated :)

i'd say the average price for a good quality DVD-R is about £6 for 25
you can pay £6-7 for 50,but then you are running the risk of a few failures
you normally get what you pay for,but you can get lucky and pick up a bargain
svp seems to be the best place so far,but they are always out of stock lately with the good stuff
i used to be a big fan of ritek, especially when they used the go4 dye,ps2's loved um,but the newer go5 dye is not so good
i got a batch of 200 here, used about 20,albeit not much complaints, they tend to load the games a wee bit slower on occassion's
i'd say last time i looked i have probably close to 700-800 titles, mostly made of ritek's/verbatims,all still load ok

btw Roxas06,using DVD-RW media can trash your laser in one go

Yep I agree, I've tried many different stores and SVP are the best I've seen so far for stock and price http://svp.co.uk

I use either their Taiyo yudens(expensive) or verbatim tyGo2(out of stock most of the time) or the ridisc extreme 8x discs(which code out as ritek g05) - I have no problems with them whatsoever and hardly ever have a bad burn or Coaster.. depends a lot on what burner and firmware you have for it too though.. I use NEC and they're excellent drives.

Well guys, because i couldnt be bothered waiting for my ebay disks to come, i went into town earlier to the smallest computer shop on the planet (seriously, it shares a shop with an antiques store), i asked the guy what would be best for backing up PS2 games and he came out with these RITEK WHITE PRINTABLE disks. I dont know if they are fakes or not (probably are because it only has Ritek written on the case ONCE), but i decided to take them anyway because they were only £5 ($8) for 25.

Anyway, i got home, and tried to back up my copy of GTA : LCS and it worked PERFECTLY, so has my Street Fighter Alpha Anthology, and my Kingdom Hearts II. So i dunno if i found a little gem here or what? Are they any good? The manufactor code is RITEKG05. Are they fakes or the real deal?

i doubt they are fakes, because ritek's are quite cheap anyway
they are not the sort of disks for someone to try and immitate if you know what i mean
that price sounds about right
on svp they are about £7-8 ,and thats for a 50 spindle

No, if they're working for you.. just continue using them. I use taiyo yuden, verbatim or ritek and there's not much difference between them if you're using a burner that likes them.
I've been using G05 for around 2 years and don't have problems with them at all.. get good quality scans from them too. All my backups still work fine.. and will continue to work fine if I look after them, for at least another few years i'd say.
