Im using Memorex Cd R. Im down to 8. So they do work. I tried to burn a cd last night and it failed because they were wmv, not mp3's. So i decided to redo it and and find the mp3's for that album that i was burning. Now ever since then it won't accept my memorex cd's? My drive doesn't detect it. Ive tried 5 different cd's and it keeps ejecting it out. Is this my Nero or is this my pc drive. How do i fix it?... i have been up all night trying to figure out this out this problem. I tried uninstalling my driver. Didn't work. I tried uninstalling Nero. Didn't worked. I dont know what else to do. I did some searching in this forum. I came across this thread
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/206497 this guy seemed to have the same problem except my Nero was working and it was detecting blank cds for a while until last night. I skimmed through the thread and notice that you guys advised him to use the Nero burning rom not Nero express to burn the cd's. Whats the difference? My drive will not detect any kind of blank cd's...cd r/cd w. How do i fix this? Im currently using Nero 7.

Hi petjelly
Welcome to aD
Post your last Nero log and let's see what we can sort out for you.
It can found at program files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.
Just be sure to edit out your serial # - usually begins with 1A, 1C or 5C.
The logs are separated by something like this:
====== *** Nero-Burning Rom, History File *** ======
Just copy and paste what's between this.

Your drive needs a firwware update - this should help it recognize the discs.
If this is a dell pc the latest is T106. Here's a link:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=276

Update the firmware then check this - put a blank in the drive. Go to Nero ToolKit>Info Tool.
Click in the disc tab - is Nero able to give you the manufacturer info and burn speeds?

@petjelly
When you put the floppy in the drive look in 'my computer' under 'devices w/ removable storage'? Double click on the floppy drive (usually A). Is it accessible?
If they're not formatted for some reason you can format them in windows or dos.

@gwen
Looks like petjelly's drive firmware needs to be updated via floppy
Not the most common way now a days:)

Yes they still do ;) Not used a much by far anymore.

Okay petjelly
Found another one - this one has a readme file and it does not appear to need a floppy. Try this one:

I don't know what to do. I just updated my driver. And it still doesn't work.

Ive tried
Unstalling and reinstalling Nero.
Uninstalling and reninstalling my hardrive.
Updating Nero versions.
Updating my hard drive??????

It still will not detect anything. This all happen after Nero failed to burn wmv's songs. It was my fault i realised what i did. I know that is the reason that my drive is messed up because before that it was working smooth and it had no problem detecting my memorex cd r blanks cd's. After the failed burn... nothing but trouble. Is this a virus? Am i screwed? lol or should i say... is my hardrive screwed?

Well petjelly your pc may not be screwed. I'm guessing you downloaded the mp3's.
Here's some more suggestions:
*Clean up your hard drive of any files you no longer need (how much free space do you have btw?)
*Run a full virus scan and a spyware scan
*Run a disc clean up
*Do a system defrag
If you virus scan & spyware come up clean try again. Fails then post the log.
If they don't some up clean - post back what they find.

Heres the log and what it found. After doing all this driver still does not detect any blank cd's. Ive done everything. :(

Hey petjelly
I'm not the best at this logs by far but I do see things that don't look good - trojan and malware.
Looks like you may have gotten more than you bargained for finding those mp3's.

Hang tight and let me what I can do.

petjelly,
Do the system scans again, just as binkie told you to but do them in safe mode. Then repost a copy of your Ad-Aware. Make sure you have the latest updates and .dat files. You do not need to run scan disk or defrag again yet.

NOTE: Safe Mode does not allow for start up programs to run. This allows for complete access to your entire system.

When you reboot check your device manager to make sure you do not have an "!" beside the drive in question. If you do then re-install the drivers for it. Good luck and keep us posted.

thats the problem. an hour ago i did the scan on safe mode. i come back an hour later and i see a blank screen that says insert diskett. i totally got f#cked on my scan. now i gotta do it again. same thing happens when i do "full system scan"....after about a hour into the scan everything vanishes and a black screen comes up that says instert boot diskette or something like that.

you said i would be able to access anything on safe mode? same thing goes for my drivE?

Well, I'm not 100% sure about what you are saying, but this could be an overheating problem. Have you cleaned your system on the inside with compressed air? Your fans may not be able to cool the system properly. Get a can of compressed air and blow out all dust from the system, fans, and ventilation. You can also download a program called hmonitor. This will give your current temp within the computer. You can find that program at hmonitor.com. After installing that let me know if any of your items are running hot. For example: My processor runs between 57 and 67 Celsius. Those temperatures are pretty normal.

The other thing I want you to do is download a program called Hijack This. You can find it at hijack-this.org. Run a full system scan and post it for me to look at. If your computer is freezing in safe mode then it is either a virus or your system is overheating. You can run this program in regular start up. Post the log for me to look at and let me know the temperature of your system.

Thanks.

@ petjelly

You should be able to view all files and folders in safe mode if you are loged in as administrator. First let's see if we can find out what your system problem is.
