Although my net and email are ok.I still have a YELLOW Question Mark aside the Ethernet and USB controller options in Device manager.How can I get these removed.I am using Microsoft Xp,and latest drivers all installed Cheers

Did you check out the properties of these devices in the Device Mgr. Usually the ? denotes some driver problem. Are you sure you installed your ethernet driver and your chipset utility.

YES I had to go and borrow the driver software for ethernet,from dealer,so defineately loaded.in properties.gives the message the device working alright.gone to the ethernet card site for latest driver.it is installed in my system,,thanks for response

ArnieBear You were correct.Do not know what I was thinking about.The driver software not compatable with microsoft,so did not load.so using DriveMagic to determine all updated and loaded drives,thanks for the nudge

Hi ArnieBear after running Drive magic no further forward.on restart in Device Manager the SM BUS CONTROLLER and ETHERNET CONTROLLER are both Yellow Question marked ,I have uninstalled both but on reboot.XP cannot find drivers for both .in thier properties no driver can be found.where do I go from here.cheers

Is this a build your own puter, or store brand? There should have been driver disks that came with the hardware. You can try to find out what brand ethernet and google for the drivers. Mine is an Intel ProNetwork. As for the SM Bus this is in your chipset install disk, you must find out what mfr of you motherboard is and go from there, Windows will not install this for you.

You are one move ahead.yes I built this 4years ago.replaced various parts,but over period of time mislaid driver disks.shall open pc tomorrow look for part and id numbers,take it from there,shall let you knoe.cheers have a good weekend

ARNIEBEAR.DONE IT.found all driver ID on PC by using this free link /reports all ID on system .save this file excellent

all fixed,after completed ,message stating that by not having the drivers installed made no difference to pc operation

Well if nothing else you now should have your ? removed. And although it states it makes no difference, I am sure your motherboard is much happier having it's own stuff. My comp will run without my chipset drivers using XP ones but it does not perform as well, Intel wants it's own :)
