DV compression vs quality

I have a canon Minidv cam and was making movies in Vegas 6 and wondering what the best way to compress the video to get great quality but also keep the file sizes small. I have tried Mp4 and wmv, but the quality goes way down from original. Any suggestions.

you could try DVD Shrink...but you will need something to convert that to your format...worth a try...
