Im new to backing up PS2 games, so please dont think im stupid or anything for asking this if there is an obvious answer. But do you need a mod chip to play backed up PS2 games? Are there programs that will format the disk so you dont need a mod chip?
Penguins will one day rule...

you could also try the memory card exploit (depending on your PS2 version), but a modchip is the best way to go

i cant get DVD Decrypter it says it is not available anymore so what should i do..plus is it ok for me to burn because i use an hp laptop not a desktop computer so i cant put two cd's/dvd's in at one time..is that a problem..also are you saying that a mod chip isnt needed i just have to use that program and i can then play burned games on my ps2

do a search for DVD Decrypter in google - it is out there, just have to search for it
Get a USB DVD burner, the easiest way to do it.
To play backups here are you options:
1) modchip
2) swap magic
You need either of these, can't do without it

Also, it doesnt matter that your on a laptop as long as its a dvd burner. if you burn from the original disc, you will be making an image file so you will be able to put a blank in, and take the original out.

Here are all the programmes you will ever need including DVDDecrypter http://ps2burns.host.sk/tools.html You can use a laptop with a single DVD read/write drive if you must.

again have a search - if you are finding that too challenging, maybe doing the job yourself isn't a good idea... getting a professional to do it means you won't risk killing your PS2
