I recently downloaded a movie from the internet and it says in the description that it is an "avi." movie (or file). I can watch it on my computer but I can't figure out how to convert it to an MPEG movie so that I can burn it to watch in my DVD player in another room. Can someone PLEASE help me out with this problem? I would be sooooo grateful.
Thanx much in advance.

I've used DVD2SVCD to convert .avi files directly to SVCD format (in bin/cue form).

Use any AVI to MPEG converter. I am using Studio 7 by Pinacle Systems (comes with their capture cards). Lots of editing stuff, and may output formats like MPEG-1 (VCD) and MPEG-2 (DVD)

You probably downloaded a divx avi file. Go to vcdhelp.com and look for the guide that talks to converting divx avi to VCD/SVCD/DVD format.

Nero's "quality" simply sucks when speaking of encoding. You're much better of encoding with TMPGEnc and after that burning it with Nero once it is VCD or SVCD compliant MPEG.

As for video issue, install DivX5 codec and your prob should be solved.

I took Pinnacle's TRex to convert the avi's. You can get the tool as a free download. After a few hours of converting with a p3-1000, TRex created a little larger mpeg-file in very nice quality.
The latest version 1.50 offers a faster encoding, but better let the computer doing the nightjob than accept the low-quality of faster encoding.
