You may say that it is connected correctly; however, you may have a faulty connection. Try to ping your connection and see it you have a time out. To be honest with you I need to know a little more information about your settings. Are you connecting to an external modem via an Ethernet card to external modem? If not then your internal modem may be faulty. Are you connecting wireless to a router? If so then your settings to the router may be incorrect. Give me a little explanation of how you are set up.

For example: My Ethernet card is connected to an external speed stream modem that is connected to my phone line. Normally if I loose connection I may correct it one of two different ways. Remove my current connection and re-establish a new connection or turn my modem off for 30 seconds and then back on. Your service provider may give you the address to your modem to make sure you are connected.

If you are using XP then open the network connections within the control panel. Your connections should say connected, firewalled. If they are not firewalled then make sure to turn the firewall client on. If you right click the icon to the connection a select properties tab make sure that you have a check in the check box, "Display progress while connected".

Also let me know if you are Static connection or Dynamic connection. If you need a little more help you may check out this web site. support.microsoft.com/?kbid=314846
