ok i decided to make backups of my dvd collection, when i try to copy with Nero i get the warning "this dvd is copy-protected and cannot be read" then it fails, so i investigated some other programs and was able to copy it with other software.so i am assuming there must be a way to get Nero to do it because i hate having programs installed that i dont really need, its nice to have Nero able to do everything for me, i am using Nero version 6.6.0.18, any advice appreciated.

Hello.

Nero alone can't do it because of the copy protection.

There are several approaches.

One is to download and install AnyDVD. It works in the background to decrypt and remove copy protection. This is by far the easiest approach. You should then be able to use Nero Recode to backup, re-author, and compress your video if necessary.

There is also a totally free approach:

Use DVDFab Decrypter to rip to the HDD.
Process the ripped file through FixVTS or Vobblanker to clean it up.
Use DVD Shrink to compress or re-author the sanitized file(s).
Use DVD Decrypter or ImgBurn to burn the project to a blank disk.

Links to software are in my signature. Guide links are below:

A new program is available that uses all free software and automates the process. The program is ripit4me.

Be sure to download and install DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink, and FixVTS before using ripit4me.

Nero will not do it theres no way. it will however, burn the file you have on the computer, protected or not. so what you do is download DVD Decrypter and rip the files, then burn it.

Hi all you really need to do is Download DVD43 it will run in the back ground and you will be able to copy dvd's using Nero or DVD Shrink. Its as easy as that.

Shrink can rip older protected movies, but it will not and cannot rip the newer ARccOSS/Puppetlock or Ripguard protected movies. For that you will need another program to rip it and then you can use Shrink, unless you run AnyDVD or DVD43 behind Shrink for this purpose, in which case Shrink can then rip with the aid of these programs. If you look at laddyboy's post he gave a number of ways and programs to use, try them out. Nero alone cannot do protection of any kind you must use another program in conjunction with it.
