my slim ps2 has suddenly started to freeze and run choppy in games.
it has latest myth chip (2 weeks old), it has been running perfect until last night where my ps2 struggled to run my backups, but before last night the backups have been running perfect. anyone know why this is happening????

Well if your laser is clean and your using decent media, then you may be needing a new laser. :(

1) What media do you use
2) How do you burn your game (and what speed)
3) Give your laser lens a clean

#1 is your answer.. get some better quality media, like taiyo yuden, verbatim or ritek and in DVD-R format and everything should be ok maybe.

i got other media's too that i have been using for months now with no problem, but the problem just started last night and now even those media's that i had been using end up choppy. but if i could remember ibought a 50pack of laser dvd-r's 8x and i backed up one of my games, and ever since after that media i had used in the ps2, the ps2 has been struggling to run all my other media's now.
is it possible that, the new media i got stuffed up my laser???

I wouldn't have thought your laser would have gone that quickly.. it's more likely that you just keep getting low quality discs and the ps2 has trouble reading them..

Is it all games that have started to run choppy etc.. or just the newly backed up ones?
Are you using DVD+R or DVD-R discs?
what games specifically are they that are running choppy etc?

How are your originals? do they play ok?
Cheap dvdr's are not so cheap in the long run, they give your laser a thrashing.

never ceases to amaze me that people are still cheap b*****s,,when it comes to buying disks for copying ps2 games, which apparently are for "back-up purposes only".
it makes me wonder why people buy disks for like £0.15 each, when they only save like,£0.10 per disk on buying the good stuff
my laser in my ps2 is nearly 3 years old, never been cleaned, nothing
and its still going strong.
i always have used decent media
i hope for your sakes, its not the laser thats screwed, but its not uncommon for laser to be worn out by using cheap disks which the laser sometimes struggle to read

give the laser a another clean, and dont use a lens cleaning disk
use a cotton swap, with some alcohol, and give it a wipe,as it may just be a bit of shite covering it.

good luck

yeah, riteks are ok,verbatims are my favourite though

check with the guy who installed the modchip, ask the question about the overheating protection the chip has,and the laser fix,(if you have the newer slim ps2),as there's no harm in asking,at least he will think, even if you dont, that you know what you are talking about
who fitted it anyhows?
