I know there are a few good free DVD backup softwares like DVD Shrink. Does anyone know of a good free DVD ripping software so I can take my DVD's and make them into .avi's?

@ gogochar, you cannot burn with shrink, it does not have a burn engine. Dvd-decryptor is what you burn with.....

Steeped is not asking about burning. Only ripping and converting to AVI.

IMTOO doesnt give to many options. You can't choose how large u want the .avi to be. And the quality isn't amazing. And I tried Xillsoft trial and I don't think it's worth the price it costs. Any other ideas?

We gave you many ideas. The only thing left is for you to try some out. Everybody has their own opinion on the software they use. Some may like a certain software that others do not. The thing is that we have tried these products. The ones we don't like, we delete. You should do a search. Hey, you may find something new that you can tell US about.

Nero 1020 is this
Quote: 1020=Cannot recover from callibration area
What media are you using and what speed are you burning at, this is a power callibration error, denoting drive problem.
Quote: Nero API version: 7.2.0.3
Using interface version: 6.3.1.4
You have two different Nero versions here, didn't you uninstall your ver 6 correctly when you installed 7.
Quote: File 'Drivers\CDRALW2K.SYS': Ver=8.0.0.212 , size=2560 bytes, created 5/19/2006 2:16:24 PM
You also have Roxio drivers installed, you need to get RoxioZapper and uninstall these as they can conflict with Nero.

@Gottawin
I really enjoy this program too, once setup it easy to use. It rips the new stuff no problems and then if you use 1Click mode it can't get much easier. And I agree it feels like the old days of using just Decrypter and Shrink for your backups, free is still good :)
