That upgrade sucks, unless you want flash. The flash, though, isn't even that great. Yes, the mod-chip will work on all firmwares, including 2.71.

Is there anyway you can downgrade a 2.71 to a 2.0 or 1.5? Will you be able to open ISO files on your PSP with the Modchip? What does the modchip actually do? tanx ;)

Modchip allows u to have both 1.5 and say 2.71 with the press of a buttuon on psp startup...its better than having a 1.5 psp...u can play all iso's..no problem xept I think 2.70 and up games (not sure bout that tho) Not to mention it unbrick's psp's (if ur's is bricked, buy this)
If I insult you...don't get offended...my insults are "friendly insults"...I know this sounds stupid (ridiculous) but I am fet up of writing, "no offense" in my posts...
My Comp: (will add specs later)

If your PSP works then it's not a brick.
By the Way:
It doesn't "unbrick" your PSP. Not in the way that you're thinking.

I am totally lost, lol. So iso files can work with the modchip, on a 2.71. Is the modchip safe? Don't you have to solder it on? tanx ;)

Send your PSP to these guys and have them install it for you. Yes, they're very reliable and trust worthy.

Depends on where you are. Unless you personally know someone who can solder you're more or less likely gonna have to send it to a professional modchip store.
