Best solution for DS Lite? Anyone know yet?

Hi there folks. Anyone had enough time to be satisfied with a combination of cards for the DS Lite? How is the G6? and the EZ Flash Lite IV? Can someone here give us some straight up answers as to what is currently the best solution for the DS Lite to use homebrew without having anything sticking out of the GBA slot??

The EZIV Lite works well. Requires the use of a microSD card, which can be purchased from Newegg for around $27 including shipping for a 512 megabyte card. It's basically a smaller version of the EZIV, which lacks a RTC, meaning the only way to play GBA Pokemon is with a clock patch (use GBATA to do so). There are issues with streaming FMV (Castlevania intro skips), but gameplay works fine. Other than that, it works great.
The G6 Lite is a smaller version of the G6 series of flash carts, and should have excellent GBA and DS compatibility. According to mr_hanky, video playback isn't smooth with Moonshell. The G6 Lite holds 4 gigabits, or 512 megabytes.
In essence, both work great for DS and GBA games, but won't work as well as the M3 when it comes to homebrew. However, they are the only available solutions that will fit flush in the DS Lite.
If you want something for homebrew I'd either wait for a newer M3 to be released or deal with the larger size of the current M3 line-up. Team EZFlash's write code is slowly being integrated into homebrew applications, so it's uncertain when homebrew will work on it as well as it does on the M3. Moonshell is currently the only homebrew application that has been updated to support the EZIV. Someone else might be able to tell you more about the G6 Lite though. I only have access to the EZIV Lite, so if you have any specific questions about it feel free to ask.

I have found that if you reduce the fps and bitrate of the video it can playback smoothly, however there is a small loss of quality by doing so.
Also the G6 Lite fits flush in the DS, I have heard (correct me if i'm wrong) that the EZIV Lite sticks out by like 0.8mm, which isn't noticable unless you run your finger along the edge of the DS when it's plugged in.

Yeah, it sticks out slightly because of the casing. The way the internal battery sits on the PCB forced them to do it that way, and even then the casing still hits it.

In terms of memory cards that work with the Supercard / M3 ... is there a certain brands that just dont work or what...
Im interested in a MiniSD *because of size* M3 or SD version of the M3 and from Newegg ... A-Data 1gb models *for both sd and minisd* are what I am interested in buying ...
Anyone bought a mem card that just didnt work well *speed wise and such*... thanks

I have never had a card that has not worked well, but I have heard that A-Data cards are a very good choice for the M3, almost all of them work flawlessly, even some of the slower cards work fine when playing video etc.

OK, and if I am not that desperate to have a 'flush' solution, and have something that sticks out a bit, then what would you guys recommend? I don't want something that sticks out an inch, but half an inch I can deal with.
Either that, or I wait until a smaller M3 comes out....any idea when that may be? I originally just wanted a solution to play ROMS, but I've been checking some Homebrew stuff out there, and some of it definitely looks worth a shot, so strong Homebrew capability would interest me...

If you don't mind having something stick out a bit, i highly reccomend getting the M3 miniSD, the newest batch of these is the same size as a GBA cart, so will only stick out by about 1cm from the DS Lite.

Wait, hold up, if you really want the most Homebrew then you have to get a M3/Supercard/whatever that uses CompactFlash.
A lot of Homebrewers seem to know how to write to CF but i haven't seen one yet talk about writting to a SD card. Well, aside from EZ Flash's own MoonShell edit/update and i think they released the code for others to use...fingers crossed. Point is, right right now this is how it stands

I'm leaning for the EZ Flash 4 Lite myself, since that CF M3 card is the size of a gameboy color cart! I have the old GBA Movie Player v2 and from what i hear their the same size. For me CF sticks out too far and i really want expandable memory so that means i'm getting a smaller SD cart and so i might as well get the smallest cart i can. I dont know if the G6 Lite would act like a CF or SD or what else but its not expandable so i dont care. Well, goodluck in getting whats best for you :)

Yeah, admittedly i've only done as much homework as i've felt necessary for my own satisfaction. I just wanted to make sure he was getting all the angles, maybe homebrew right now is really worth it for him and maybe not :)
Also for me, well i am hoping SD homebrew will start to become more common. In the mean time i have the old GBA MoviePlayer v2 CF and there is a firmware hack that may make it work for DS :D
I don't know if i can link to his page or the page that links to it since his site has some DVDRip something or other on it... it should be easy enough to find though.
He also wrote a GBA game save Backup Utility for the GBAMP that finally let me backup my original carts save files so at least i don't have to start a few from scratch on my old flashcart. I've seen the power of CF but my vanity isnt willing to wait or settle lol

yep thats it, i'd read the rules but i dont know how strict things are around here. I havent bought anything yet (everyone's sold out of EZ4 Lites) so i keep reading up on it... I'm glad i stopped by and its good to hear the firmware hack works :)
