Ok so i've been using 'cheap' media to back up my games. I've read that cheap media wears down the life time of the laser, and some games will not work with bad media, correct? Recently i've tried backing up one of my games and it seems that this bad media doesn't work well with it. I get incredibly slow load times and sometimes my game fails to boot.

I was at future shop today and i saw some maxwell/verbatim/sony DVD-R 16x recordables but they were made in taiwan, and not japan, are these still high quality media; or should i order some verbatim online? I'm thinking about picking up 5 of the sony DVD-R's just to see if there's a difference from the cheap media im using now. And finally will it make a difference if the disks are 16x or do they need to be 8x. Thanks if i get any replies, you could end up saving me a few bucks.

The Sony 16x DVD+R work perfect for me and always have. Made in Japan or Taiwan.. Just burn at 8x.. Alot of people will tell you to stay away from 16x dvdr's but they work fine for me.

the ones made in Taiwan are fine, just stay away from the made in China/HK stuff and you should be fine :)

try staying away from 16x media, they tend to give allot of people problems, PS2 menace is an exceptions as all Ps2s are different. The only way to tell if the disk are legit is to find the media id of the disks and check it agianst the media id of a thread on afterdawn, it should tell you whether your disks are good quality. If they are no good go give the disks back. just use the search button and you should find that thread (sorry i cant be bothered finding that thread for you) apparently 8x works the best, burn at half the maximum burn speed. and follow the usual precautions.

Yeah, 16x Sony DVD+R's work fine for me... But then again, My Sony DVD burner can booktype +r to dvd-rom, so maybe that's why they work fine for me. I tried 8x discs (hard to find locally anymore) and had more problems with them and the Sony DVD-R than the DVD+R. I like being the exception to the rule ;)

I figured a Sony Ps2 with a Sony disc burnt with a Sony DVD DL burner should work.. Hell, everything I own Audio/Video wise is Sony..
My setup is a Sony Grand Wega 55inch 3LCD HDTV
Sony STR-DE845 Reciever
Sony PS2 Slim v12
Swap Magic 3.6

Man I gotta tell ya, I love how GOW looks in widescreen and Progressive scan but I'm wishing I had the 400 bucks for a 360..

hehe
like i said, all PS2s are diferent.
but then again remember ps2 menace that dvd rom is more compatible than DVD-R so its probably right that you ps2 accepts dvd rom rather than DVD-R

alright so i picked up some sony DVD+R 8x today and i checked the disk ID and i got 'Disc ID: SONY-D11-00'. I googled that and it directed me to this thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/2/240341

And i quote "So if Decrypter says: "Disc ID: SONY-D11-00", They are knockoff, not quality like you expect from sony? They are +R. thanks."

"The "D11" is the SONY DVD+R (Made In Taiwan), which in my opinion is not that much of a high quality media."

So should i return them and get my money back?
