I am poor so i cant put alot of investment into a PC... especially when Im saving up for the PS3 =P

I found a guide online about building a decent PC for under $300. I sourt of changed some parts from the guide around and came up with this combo. Im a total noob and never build anything in my life so please let me know if what i have(going to buy) is enough to build a decent PC. Also let me know if u have any info about the parts im using cuz i dont know if they all are compatible with the mobo. Although im pretty sure they are. Much thanks.

Im gonna build a computer so if the parts are gay or you know where to find it cheaper please let me know.

1. Barebone kit ($84.95)

(If this aint compatible with the barebone kit then tell me cuz i dont really know)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819104245

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16821103203

Total money = $281.92

Plus tax and shipping and stuff id say it would be around $300. Is that too much to spend or not enough? Is the computer even gonna be decent at all or crap quality? Let me know ASAP man b4 i buy all this.

Hi.

Hi guys,
Forget SocketA (unless you are picking up a used system from 2004).
Socket 939 is also dead - but Socket 754 lives on (for now...)
In my region, ECS offers a Motherboard Package that includes 761GX (Socket 754, SiS chipset) plus XP2800+ CPU (Socket 754, Sempron).
I have used these before and they are really very solid :^)
The package is ~$100 U.S. bucks - they are in-stock at my local shop for $125 bucks (Canadian) retail
http://www.pccanada.com/viewitem.asp?id=4626
You get mobo, CPU and cooler, including onboard graphics - plus an empty PCI Express x16 slot!
You can't beat it; and I will build a few systems like this every September (my 'Back To School' special).

You might want to go for something other than a socket-A setup, since you hav'nt listed a cpu preference, How about this->http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details....
You could always upgrade the cpu later(if you feel it's needed) otherwise it should be fine...just add the hard drive and cd/dvd drive/burner and your pretty much set!

Or if you really want S-754(I would'nt,IMHO... socket 939 will be around for a while) here is a deal on one with a decent processor->http://shop2.outpost.com/product/4811530

Main System- Amd/64 3800x2 currently@ 2.5ghz. Asus A8N-E,win.xp-pro.4x1gb.Ocz platnium ddr 400,Maxtor 40gb.& 250gb.ide & 2x W.D.250 sata,Benq 1650V dvd Reader & Benq DW-1655 Writer,EVGA Geforce 7600gs,Creative Audigy-LS,Antec 750w psu. Vizio 37"hdtv monitor 1360x768@75hz.

socket 939 is better and it will last longer than the 754 but the 754 is cheaper

You will notice that the selection of processors for the 939 boards are much better and plentiful, as 754 will most likely be used only for laptops and eventually phased out. Some say 939 is dying but I don't see it...not right away atleast!

Actually i do have a question already. So after i get my stuff and put it all together....I suppose using the back up disc that came with my dads PC to install Windows XP operating system wont work right? Total noob and dont really know what to do.

Oh and do i need a sound card or a video card or anything like that? Or am i all set.

OOPS! Forgot about the video card.Every m/b I've ever seen includes on board sound,so no worries there.I found another kit with built in graphics and is upgradable if you ever choose to do so.
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details....

Sorry about the oversight!

Please don't feel limited to my suggestions, there are a lot of good deals, they just need to be found!

both those barebones are nice! although i would take the lil black one with side fan over the solid black one, more case cooling! those two barebones are very very flexible and upgradable make the wise decision and research before you go buy ciao

Thank you, I have been considering building off of this barebone kit http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.... any suggestions for video and sound. Should I add additional cooling such as HD cooler or any others. I will also be adding a card reader and floppy and additional ram hoping for 2gig at least. I am trying to stay under 1000

If your not a "super" gamer, that 6800xt looks pretty good for the price and the reviews look good too.If your not going to use the onboard sound, any of the mid priced Creative S/B cards should serve you well. You might also think about a couple extra case fans but that would be optional,as for the memory go for Corsair,OCZ or Kingston...you won't be let down.
