http://www.psp411.com/show/product/495/0/X5_20_GB_Hard_Drive.html but if i only have a 32mb memory stick will a 700mb movie work on the psp from that hard drive? cuz it seems you would have to connect it and transfer that file to memory stick.....basically i wanted external hard drive of 20-30gb that i could watch movie on psp from hard drive not memory stick

yes you would need to transfer them to the psp memory stick, but why not just buy the datel 4gb hdd for $150
although that hd you gave the link to has a video screen on it, maybe you could just watch it from that?
YOU win some, YOU lose some, either way I WIN

The largest HDD you can get for psp is 4GB. They know make a 4GB memory stick. The memory stick has way better transfer speeds then the HDD. They also make a portable HDD that allows you transfer files to and from the psp.

No thats not true. That only allows you to transfer files to and from your psp. You do not boot anything from that HDD as you have to put it on your memory stick with it first. If you would have read a lil more in depth its there in plain white and black text.

Aye sorry, guess I should take my own advice. Oh well point still sticks that you cant run things off that HDD and you can only transfer to and from.

That is exactly what thing is for. Its primarily just to transfer to and from your psp. Get tired of an iso take it off and put a new one in its place. It is a nifty lil utility.

Yes i do believe they work with ipods also. Anything that uses the usb interface and can transfer files this can work with. Its like a portable computer used primarily to transfer files.

OK, answer this, how does the PSP see the external hdd, is it in the same menu as the UMD and MS selecter?

You plug in the hard drive to your psp just like you would connect it to your computer. Then you go to usb connection like you normally would. The external hdd has a built in lcd so u can browse to what files u wanna transfer and also where u want to transfer them. I have used one of these before.

The one thing that's often overlooked with these portable drives is that they have to be plugged into a power source [portability?], and those that come with built in rechargeble batteries don't have the stamina to last very long. There is a 2.5" hard drive ( the same ones in notebooks ) in them and these consume quite a bit of power. I have used three different varieties of these poratble drives for photography, and trust me you better have a power source handy if you are a heavy user. :)

Oops, forgot to mention, some may have a microdive in them, but these too consume quite a bit of power. Plus drives have moving part in them and tend to be unforgiving when it comes to knocks and bumps.
