I'm upgrading a pc for a buddy and he has a eVga 6800GS he got from new egg, he wants SLI, and newegg dosen't carry the card anymore. what parts have to match for the SLI to work. does it have to be the exact one or can it be a different maker as long as the specs match

As far as I am aware the chipset model for the card has to be the same, whether it would be an ATi or Nvidia. Not any old chipset, but one that was the same.

fact: the video card can be anything but! the video gpu has to be same chipset to work

If you want a 6800 gs in SLI you have to have another 6800gs. It could be an xfx and bfg, It could be an evga and msi, the company doens't matter as long as its a 6800 gs. But hed probably be better off getting a 7900 gt as it can outperform 2 6800s in SLI and hed still have an open slot if he wanted to get another 7900. Or better yet, just wait for the 8 series and get one of those.
