I'm trying to back up this title. I was using AnyDVD and Clone 2. I usually have no problems because AnyDVD usually has an update before the movie even comes out.

But today there was no updates so I felt sucure to go ahead. Now that drive (we'll call it D) wont even play a DVD, let alone rip it. The other drive E works fine. I usually rip to hard drive with D and it automatically starts to burn on E.

it was going fine for a while then stopped and had the typical error message with the 4 possible problems--clean the disc, the disk is damaged and the last 2 were a little over my head, firmware and region coding. The disc is brand new so its clean and it plays in other players in the house so its not damaged.

Now nothing will play from D. I tried shutting off the PC and restarting it. I did full virus and spyware scans. I did "disc clean up" and looked to see if it needed to be defraged. As a last resort I did a "system restore". Still no effect. Now if I try it AnyDVD acts like it was shut off but I can see the fox on my toolbar. DVDDecrrypter says I/O error. DVDFabDecrypter says Get DVD information fall. 4096.

Help Please

Is your drive showing in the Device Manager, if so uninstall it and let Windows reinstall it.

Try a registry cleaner if you have not done this, could be something is corrupted in there. Free one is CCleaner, if you don't have one.

http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

You may want to uninstall and reinstall AnyDVD and CloneDVD. Make sure you have your keys to these programs. If not then don't, would not want you to loose them.

I have CCleaner and did that, it did not help. I just deleted and reinstaled both programs and that did not work. It asked me if i wanted to delete the registration info too and I said no, so I wonder if that wasnt a "full" uninstall.

It wasn't it saved your keys in the reg. Did you try uninstalling the controllers for DMA, that might kick it.

Is the drive showing up as enabled in AnyDVD or just not there at all?

I think its enabeled. It says failed to read, and wonders if the disc is dirty or damaged and the other 2 that I said were over my head. If it has failed it at least tried so I think that means enabled. I guess I dont understant what you meant by that. And the other I got there and it doesnt say primary or secondary, it says Paralell and Serial so im not sure which to use.

I was fortunate enough to purchase this title before it's release to retail and felt I should inform people here of the strange DVD label "ROOT" listed on this disc. Strange I said only because this is a SONY disc, and the word "Root" has had a negative history with SONY music media (Try searching this forum for info on SONY's "RootKit"). What joyautum describes as trouble does read like as if inserting this disc into his computers optical drive may have launched a virus into his PC. I may be wrong? I along with few members so far have been able to back this film up with no trouble but again I offer caution to anyone attempting to do so without the very best in ripping and or encoding software or you too may experience these same problems read about here. If this is indeed a virus that's being described the rules may apply differently to DVD media and for reasons of protecting their product SONY maybe within there rights to install a virus launching encryption protection to their movies. This, what I am ensinuating all may be bit much if you have the likes of an updated version of AnyDVD or other dependable software of your choice, But what if you don't? Proceed with caution.:P

N2DVD... if the disc does contain a RootKit, AnyDVD won't allow the disc to Autorun (the only way a rootkit could be installed). You should always have AnyDVD running when you insert a DVD/CD. :)

AnyDVD was on when I put it in. I neaver shut it off. It was updated. But there's 2 options to update with. I read on hear people had no prob with the beta version. That's not the one I update with. Perhaps I will start.

Can sony be allowed to put a known virus on there DVD without CLEARLY marking in on the cover or on the DVD? I would think without a warning that, that would be illigal and harmful to computers that may "accidently" activate this.

Maybe the encrypted disc can detect decrypting software? Just a thought. The disc label does say "Root" this to them and perhaps legally may be suffice, who knows?:p

I used Ripit4me 1.6.3.0 along with DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink and it worked fine. I did get a few errors on the first try though (Ripit4me claimed that there was no DVD in the drive)
