How did YOU find out about Homebrew???

I'll tell ya, I got REALLY lucky. But I'll be honest, too. I had NEVER heard of homebrew until the PSP was released. It's funny how I happened upon this whole scene:
I was a dumb-arsed end user. The typical one who buys their PSP just to play UMDs b/c I didn't know the REAL power of the PSP. I saw I had to upgrade my old black v1.50 to 1.52 to play Ghost in the Shell, so I thought, why not? Plus, about that time, the 2.00 update was JUST released in Japan. (and Japan only at the time) Well, I had heard a lot about the 2.00 upgrade w/ teh web browser and all, so I looked forward to it. Plus, I thought (just like every other oblivious end-user) ooh! the higher the upgrade the more stuff it does and teh better it is! So I couldn't wait and I upgraded my US PSP w/ the Jap EBOOT. I did that and was happy.
Anyway, so I'm on the net looking for new games for my newly upgraded 2.00 PSP. I would search for new UMD games like everyday. However, I kept seeing this search result on Google that said PSP NEWS UPDATED 24/7 and I ignored it for a total of maybe three days. Finally, I was tired of hearing about it and decided to take a looky. So I saw all these games and was like, "WTF????" I was like a kid in a candy store once I began reading about what homebrew is. Once I realised all these games were free, I was like, "OH SH!T!!! Time to break out the ol' USB 2.0!!!" What I did NOT realise was you had to have a v1.50. I had heard a lot about MPH's downgrader and was scared, but gave it a shot and it worked like a champ. I think I was about as scared as you ppl who downgraded from 2.60 to 1.50, but you made a way bigger jump. More risky. So anywya, from then on, I just started learning. I was on the computer everyday, downloading any new games I could find. At this point, the homebrew scene had already been going on for like 4 months or so, so I had a TON of catching up to do. Thing is, I didn't know what forums were either, so I didn't know I could ask for help. So I was on my own. Pretty much self taught hacker. I did ask a few ppl on the way up, I enjoyed learning on my own; it was fun. As a n00b, I would search EVERYTHING on Google (like EVERY n00b should) and I kept being routed to the aD forums. (Google results showed this at the top of the list) It was funny too, b/c I thought this site was the cheesiest looking site w/ the most basic and ugly layout that I'd ever seen. Come to find out it is the BEST site w/ the most supportive ppl! :)
Let's hear your story! (The forums were dead today, so I was trying to help liven them up!)

simmilar story here, the only kind of homebrew i heard of was ps2 moding etc. i remember when i went into school one day and saw my friend with his psp , and he showed me fastloader(the good old days lol). and how he booted up his burnout iso. then i kept nagging him each day to tell me more about iso's etc.i couldnt help thinking about free psp games so then one lucky last minute bid on ebay has got me to where i am now a virgin 1.5 psp with iso's. i kept asking and asking him how to get pspgenesis working (sega emu). untill one day he got so pissed off lol. he went just learn, so i did, im mostly self taught now like guano. and i have overtaken my friend now in the homebrew scene as he doesnt hardly use his anymore. now hes the one coming to me for help lol :P

it was my mate RIP that introduced me to homebrew i told him i got a psp from my gurl as a present and he said what firmware and im like i dunno? lol then he explained to me where to look and mine was 1.50 and he told me NEVER UPGRADE HIGHER THAN 2.00 but i had to upgrade to 2.00 to play GTA so i thought what the hell i can downgrade again but when i wanted to downgrade i started panicin and did'nt do it for 2 days but when i did it worked a treat never looked back since and try to learn as much as i can on my own but i sometimes have to ask the pro's *Cough* Guano *Cough* lol

ehhm homebrew for me, well since i had a pc i used to use some emulators to just play some snes games, SUPER MARIO WORLD. FOR PSP my friend bought in his psp to school and i watched how he just played ridge racer with just a umd demo and a 1gb stick and i was just so impressed how he could also play sega mega drive and snes.

I'm no pro, dude. I know what I know, but I also know some of you dudes in here could TOTALLY SCHOOL me when it comes to videos. I don't know anything about videos and PSP video 9. Mostly b/c I don't care about having videos on my PSP, but still... each person has something they're good at, you know?

bleep yeah dude..i managed to get it workin the folder's u described where already there and i had tried the roms in it but guess what i was doin wrong???
the damn roms had to stay ZIP'd got metal slug workin and its awsome but its not full screen cant w8 till its 100% workin emu and the N64 emu looks tight aswel

right on! As for me, I actually have NeoGeo pocket and I have metal slug 2nd mission or w/e it's called. Weird handheld. Probably the most obsure handheld I've ever pwned. My aunt bought it for from who-knows-where and I could never find any games to buy for it...

Also it'd be appreciate if you reduce the size of the gif in your sig to 50k or less as per forum rules. 150k + ones like yours play heck with page load times for those on dial up. Thanks :)

remember the early days of psp homebrew lol. we would never of dreamed of 2.6 emulation or even 2.6 firmware come to think of it. i was happy with my fastloader,virtua tennis,burnout and need for speed 510 lol.

Hacking the psp was the main reason I bought my psp. My friend got one and I'm like thats dumb, get a 360 instead. Then we were googling and I saw this huge list of homebrew crap and thats when I got on ebay and bought mine.

I actually knew about homebrew before I bought my PSP.
This was mainly due to Google.
But about 3 years ago or something, when the PSP was released I was like stuff it. It was just like a PS2 packaged into a smaller chassis.
But then I heard about homebrew, though I thought it was only for 1.5 (at the time).
Then when I got my PSP December last year, I didn't know anything about finding the firmware version by looking at the label on the box. So i thought, stuff it (again), I'll just be happy having a PSP even without homebrew. I ended up with a non-homebrew compatible 1.51 or 1.52 (I forgot)
So I upgraded to 2.0 to play SOCOM UMD. Then I found out a bout the eloader, and I used that until like March of this year.
I used the downgrader, and yipeeee. I'm lovin the world of 1.5! Homebrew all teh way!

EDIT: Yeah I had a megaman sig, but it was like the same size as the one I have now.
