The overflow.tif file after causing a buffer overflow, would then execute h.bin, overflow.tif didn't actually do any downgrading.
Seeing as updates 2.01 and above stopped this overflow iin theory it shouldn't matter how you run it the psp should be able to handle it.
but if you could get it to execute the h.bin file directly, which basically has the instructions to replace the index.dat file on the psp with one saying it has a lower version, hence letting you run the 1.5 update.
If you hex edit h.bin you can see the instructions used, but if you hex edit Dark_Alex's 2.5/2.6 downgrader you will see lots of things about user SCEmain etc... so in higher versions i.e. 2.7 and 2.71 you may need all these username and commands to run anything so h.bin may need to be modified to do this. But seeing as the 2.5/2.6 downgrader wasn't created until after 2.71 had been released sony's security measures shouldn't have changed too much on that front as there was no reason to change it at the time. It just won't let you load the GTA eLoader to execute the code in the first place, so DAX's downgrader might work on 2.7/2.71 if you can find a way to load it.
So in summary try to code the swf file to run a modified version of h.bin --or-- make a swf eLoader like the one used in GTA:LCS so that DaX's downgrader can be run.

dont trust a swf downgrader till its proved. It may just be a movie of code running. LOL and it does nothing.

I got the not enough memory error meaning it should be able to run code. Yeah I know that overflow.tif didn't downgrade, it overflowed the PSP so it could run a previous update. I think all that sony patched was the .tif image. I copied the code to a text file and even with the cache at over 2mb of memory, it wouldn't run meaning it isn't a movie. Also, once I get my hands on a camera i'll show you guys aiite?

i have found a overflow.tif file but my laptop will not let me open it....i onpened the link that gave me for more info and it so happens that it makes my psp malfunction........i can give it to u if u want see if u can open it....
(now before people start reading this and giving me BS of why im trying to help...heres a lil sumthing from me....I DONT KNOW SH!7 ABOUT CODING OR HACKIN....i just got a hold of that file...i dont

I just had a random idea. Dont know anything about coding, but just popped into my head.
Do PSPs hold data in their memories of previous version update information? If they do, why can't someone create a program that just deletes the current version information and rewrites it using the old fw information?
Would deleting all the information at once cause it to brick? If so, why not find a constant piece of data from once version to the next, keep that while the rest is being deleted, and then delete that piece. Or, once a piece of info has been deleted, re-write the new-old info?
Remember, dont know **** about coding, just a random idea.

the hardest part probably wont be downgrading, just finding a way to let your run the custom code to start with. i.e. in fw2.0 you had the overflow.tif, and 2.0+ you had the gta eloader which then lead to downgraders but in 2.7+ there isn't a way to run any unsigned code.

I dont mean to hurt anyones sensitive feelings when i write this but........
HackMnkey, first of all, if you dont know anything about coding, (AKA hacking), why is your nickname hackmnkey. 2nd, The whole entire issue of homebrew is that we cant run programs from the psp. (unsigned programs) 3rd, no it doesnt store previous information about firmware, when it updates it overwrites every thing. you have to totaly run a previous, fresh EBOOT update in order to get a bit of information about previous firmwares(on your PSP's flash). 4th, deleting current firmware before putting the new one on will delete vital files used to run the updates and even boot the psp. If the boot files were ROM in the first place, we wouldn't have to worry about bricking our psp's. we can thank Sony for that! Plus you wouldnt be able to do it piece by piece or whatever cause the psp does is so complex that it would be very hard to find a way to imitate it without a brick

@arconn: No offense taken what so ever, it was merely an idea. First, I named it hackmonkey because I simply like that name, not based on my knowledge of hacking. Can't run unsigned programs? What is signed? If its programming why cant it be cracked and emulated? Third: See, I didnt know that, which explains alot. My entire method doesnt work then, lol. Thanks for the help, maybe now I can come up with more random ideas :P

sony just needs to let us run unsigned code. They would sell more consoles that way. Just like the gp2x. That comes with the SDK so u can create your own homebrew applications.

whats weird is back when 2.0 was out, ppl couldnt downgrade from 1.51 or 1.52, but they could from 2.0 after the downgrader was released. Im not saying to update, but maybe ppl will find something for like 2.8 or osmthing. idk, but this sucks because i updated for games, and i thought 2.6 sucked, so i updated, cause at least i got flash and i could watch weebl and bob, and then, they came out with a 2.6 downgrader. SUCKS

So I recognized that the maker of this topic has disappeared into thin air, has any progress been made?
*Edit* I hope you can make a 2.71 downgrade, this has been more of a problem to more people than 2.70 as I have seen when searching around, amazing how the .01 difference has made in creating a downgrade.

i think its not the same as before, cuz sony are becoming very strict, and the security is diffrent. but i dont think the 2.8 will be downgraded to 1.5. but they want to attract people to play stupid demos puff locco rocco gosh! what was i thinkin

thundaar that is true, more ppl use 2.71, and even if they dont they can just update with the eboot. idk, this is crazy, there has to be a way to get around all of this
