it says "to start, you must update the system software" and it won't let me play any games what should i do

this is because the games you want to play require a higher firmware than yours head over to www.psp-hacks.com and download devhook :)

Yeah download the new DevHook 0.44 from here:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/xvu2cj

Puit the dh folder in the root of your memory stick. Put the DH_ENG and DH_ENG% in your PSP\GAME folder and put X5 in the root of your memory stick.

Then insert the UMD you want to play. Go to Games-->Memory Stick and select DevHook.

the current version of devhook alows you to play all games up to 2.71 , which currently is the highest firmware :)

Hey for those of you who used DevHook v0.42a and liked the set up where O was the select button instead of X, (If it was like that in YOURS - I know mine was) do this:

Copy system.dreg and system.ireg from your 2.50's flash1 folder. (They are in there somewhere) paste them in teh SAME flash directory in 2.60 where you got them from 2.50.

That should sort it out for you!

i already had put dev hook .43 on there. i went to game/devhook it gave me the screen to change firmware. it brought the main screen back up but still wouldn't lemme play the umd

my mobo is fine its IC6001 so no probs on the 'Easy 2.50/2.60 Downgrader' download page it says

'Your PSP CANNOT be a factory 2.50/2.60 PSP! It had to have been updated once before from a previous version or the downgrader will not work, thus a brick'

if i update my factory v2.5 to v2.6 then run 'Easy 2.50/2.60 Downgrader' will this result in bricking my psp or a successful downgrade?

If any people out there that have successflly downgraded a factory 2.5 psp please reply!!

i downgraded a factory 2.5/2.6 that downgrader shouldn't hurt anything the psp's i did run very good, except that i'm gonna try what guano did with the button switches
