Hi, I recently purchased a Swap Magic 3.8 with slide card and after much trouble i played my first few games with these cheap Playo DVD+R discs. Then I wanted to buy better quality discs so the loading time would be shorter. I bought myself some Verbatims and Tauyo Yudens and they both dont work at all on my PS2. The booting screen just returns to the browsing screen. Someone please help!!
Name of Game - Kingdom Hearts 2, Hitman, Winning Eleven 10 (All that work on the Playo discs)
Game Region - NTSC
Media Make - Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim dont work, Playo DVD+R do
Media ID - MCC003, TYG02, AML002
Disc Max Speed TY and Verbatim are 8X, Playo DVD+R is 16X
Speed of Burning 4x but have tried multiple ones
PS2 Modification Swap Magic 3.8 with Slide Card
PS2 Version V3
Game acquired original disc
Rebuilded No
Rebuilding Software N/A
Burning Software Nero

AML's are the only ones that work. They are the Playo DVD+R's. The Taiyo Yudens (which are -R) and the verbatims (which are +R) are not working

TYG02 are real TY discs, that is what i have. So if you ran a program on your PC and the discs gave that code then they are top notch.
are the Verbatim and TY DVD+R as well, if so are they 16X too?
8X is the best speed to buy, i never use 16X
both my PS2 and PSTwo play TY and Verbatim 8X fine even without booktyping.
does your burner have the latest firmware that is available? If not then upgrade it online with a free download from your burners site.

Yes ajusting it.
I have a friend of mine that used to instal chips and mod ps2, he says the slimline can be calibrated just by eye with a small screwdriver, used on two small screws on the console lense, i think that was it if im not mistaken.

Use RITEK G05 discs, much better media & probably about as close to having a game on an original store bought pressed disc as you'll get.
Always 1st with 100% working PS2 Online Game DNA$ IDs!!

G05 is not as good as Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim, not even close. They're okay, I never cared for them.
@mx Did you ever try updating your firmware? That's the first thing you should do. Also, I noticed you're using the slide card. Are you remembering to seal the disc tray with slide card on the final slide? You can't use the eject button, or do it by hand, you have to seal it with the slide card. Here's some info about firmware which should get you pointed in the right direction.
92. Q. What is firmware and why should I care?
A. Firmware as defined by AD:
Sort of a "operating system of the hardware", an embedded instruction set built-in or flashed into a hardware equipment, such as a router, CDR drive, DVD-ROM drive, washing machine, etc.
Newer Firmware can unlock new features that are sealed on certain DVD Burners like booktyping, or simply enhance your existing Burner by improving burn quality and media compatibility. Keeping your Firmware up to date is essential to ensure quality burns and maximum functionality from your DVD Burner. When flashing your burner with new Firmware, be very careful. Make sure you shut down all programs running in the background, the DVD-ROM drive is empty, and you follow all the directions included in the Firmware download exactly. A bad flash can fry your DVD Burner. Proceed with caution. You can find all the Firmware you'll ever need here: http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php

I upgraded my firmware and tries itagain but they still dont work. But whats really wierd is the AML's DVD's work and the TY and Verbatims dont. I used the AML's at first and bought the TY and verbatims later so maybe the AML's messed up my PS2 somehow and now only they work and none others. Shouldn't the AML's not work either if the problem is with the firmware?
(This is really frustrating)

verbatims works better with the new ps2, most of the older ones don't work with it. The older ps2 has a weaker laser that only likes dark blue disks, anything too light and it wont read it.

Okay guys, no offense, but there's a lot of misinformation going around here. 8x Verbatims work fine on any model PS2. Maxell DVD+R's are only good if they're the High Grade Maxells made in Japan. In which case they will say High Grade and Made in Japan on the label. Made in Taiwan Maxell's could code anywhere from CMC Mag to RitekG05. Not worth taking a chance.
@Mx Very strange that 8x Verb's and TY's aren't working for you. Is your burner in DMA Mode? This is a common fix for strange burn failures. I didn't mean to suggest you weren't using the slide card improperly, that's a very common mistake people make. Definitely stick with DVD-R's. V 1-3 PS2's work better with -R's. How are you burning the games? What software are you using? You'll notice there's links to burn tutorials in my sig for DVD Decrypter, ImgBurn, Alcohol 120%, and Nero. They all work properly, make sure you're not missing a step or something. Here's some info about DMA mode: http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf

That's probably because you were using 16x Verb's. In general 8x Verb's work flawlessly in either format for PS2 backups. I was speaking in general terms, there's no time it's advantageous to use low quality media for PS2 backups.

@mx50525
have you cleaned your ps2 lens lately? v3 is old and the lens could probably use some cleaning. because if you are implying that ty and verbs wont work on v3 then you are totally off base. trust me, it has something to do with your ps2 or your dvd burner. those discs will work fine on a properly working v3. usually when you get redirected to your browser it has something to do with your lens not being clean or working properly.
