Hey,
I tried to back up one of my games to a dual-layer dvd. I changed the book-type to DVD-ROM and burnt it to disc using DVD Decrypter (i later checked that it had been burnt as a dvd-rom, which it had been). When i went to play the game it loaded up with the playstation 2 logo before it begins to load the game. It starts to load and you can hear the disc spinning, and then it just stops and stays on a black screen? I am using a modbo 3 chip (a good copy of matrix which supports DVD-9 discs, Matrix Firmware 1.52) and am burning with an LG DVD-DL burner using TDK DVD+R Double Layer discs (which burn at 2.4 speed). I didn't patch the game with the toxic patcher as the chip supposedly supports DVD-9 (is that the same as dual/double-layer?). Is this what i would need to do?
I would try this but i don't want to waste another DL DVD as they are so expensive, until i work out if thats what i need to do.
Thanks

may just be those TDK discs
If your chip can play original DVD9 (dual laer) games then the toxic DL patcher should allow it to play the DVD9 back up once patched. Does the chip have any settings, some have special settings to play DVD9
PLus i do not know much about Modbo chips other than they are cheap Matrix Infinity clone chips.

Thanks for your quick reply
Are TDK discs a bit dodgey are they? from what i know it doesn't have any special settings for DVD-9.
http://www.modbo.com/product1.htm is the official site (atleast for the modbo i have)
I'll try to patch it, then burn it, and if that doesn't work i mite have to get some other disks(?)
thnx

I'd say booktype it to DVD-ROM and patch it with the toxic dual layer patcher. I have about 40 of the Verbatim DVD+R DL and can't do anything with em since I use SM 3.6.

Stil didn't work..burnt it as a dvd-rom, patched it but it still loads the same except that when it does the playstation 2 before it loads it now changes to saying matrix. Im pretty sure that i am doing everything right and that the modbo supports DL (it says it does).
Would appreciate any help.
thanks

Which game is it you're trying to backup just out of interest?

Do not update your firmware or change the settings in the firmware menu, doing so will fry your chip!!! MI clones aren't upgradeable, they're stuck with the firmware you get with them, as a safeguard against clone chips, the Matrix Team made it so upgrading a clone chip with official MI firmware will destroy it. Make sure your firmware is up to date, and use Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, they're by far the the best quality DL discs, I've never had any probs with them. I have a legit MI blue dot. I'm not positive the Modbo supports DVD-9 backups, try DVD-9 originals, as Steimy suggested. If it works with DVD-9 originals, Toxic DL patcher should work.

The game i am trying to back up is Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition Remix. I have a version 9 ps2 and i can play dual-layer games on my ps2 (such as MC3 DE remix). I have not tried to modify anything to do with my modbo since i had it. I tryed MC3-DE-Remix burnt to TDK DVD+R DL (called double-layer, 8.5gb) and it loaded up with the Playstation 2 written logo like it does before it starts a game. The ps2 then tries to begin loading the game and you can hear it begin but stays on a black screen. I then patched the iso file of it (with toxic dual layer patcher) and then burnt it. I put it into my ps2. It loaded up with the Playstation 2 written logo again, then that morphed into the MATRIX logo (it didn't do this on the first disc) and then again stayed on a black screen.
Note: I burnt both games as DVD-Roms (booktype) through DVD Decrypter at 2.4x.
Thanks

Is it a 1:1 backup, or did you download it? I backed up a copy of the DVD-9 release of MNC 3 Remix I downloaded, and it wouldn't work off disc with a modchip. I had confirmed reports of this release not working off disc with a modchip from several other people. If you got the same release, it could be the problem. Other than that, try out some Verb DVD+R DL's.

Then it's the media. A 1:1 copy on Verb DVD+R DL discs will probably work fine.
