i have Nero 6.6.0.16

i burned an audio cd recently, but when i listen to it, the song skips around. i have tried the disc in my pc, stereo, xbox, and walkman, and it always sounds terrible. what happens is this. say for example a track is supposed to be 5 minutes of music. there is music for 2 or 3 minutes with lots of skipping as if the song is playing in fast motion. then there is 2 or 3 minutes of silence that is supposed to be music, and then the next track plays. all 23 tracks do this.

the cd length was about 78 or 79 minutes, which is close but still under 80, so im okay right?

i burned at 4x or maybe 8x i dont remember. but the maximum for my burner is 40x. and i have a lot of ram.

i tried burning to image a few times afterwards to see what would happen. i mount the image and play it on my pc and it also sounds corrupt.

i noticed the image size was a little over 700 megabytes. i thought that was weird because how can a cd be bigger than 700 megs? so i deleted some songs and burned again, this time it was about 70 minutes and the image was 690 megs and still sounded corrupt.

tell me should i use a different program? i dont want to use windows media player because the maximum quality is 128 kbps. my songs are at 320 kbps. i am willing to use burrrn, but im worried because it doesnt have a mode to simulate burn or burn to image.

I usually use windows media player (you said you don't like it because of your songs, but try downloading them from limewire and then try using windows media player) but if you don't like that, then use this site:

http://www.cd-burner.biz/

but you might want to try using less songs on Nero.

Well, I looked at the help file for Nero Burning ROM and when it converts files, the standard is 128kbps. Maybe the 320 is just too much for it, or at least too much for some part of the process. Are you also writing CD Text? And you are doing Disk at Once, right?

Can you get the same songs at 160 or 128 kbps and see if they might work correctly?

You might want someone to burn you some files at different rates and not tell you which ones are which. Then see if you can tell the difference between the different settings. It would make quite a bit of difference as to file size if you could use a lower setting.

yup i reencoded all the songs at 128 and Nero made a functional cd, even with all 79 minutes of 23 songs.

it still sounds better than the kind of songs you get off limewire, but of course id like the songs at the highest possible bitrate when i burn them.

why do Nero and wmp limit you to 128 kbps? or is this an inherent limit to homemade cds?

does anyone know of an audio cd burning program for very high bitrates and near-studio-quality cds? even a program with a limit of 256 would be good, as i can reencode my original 320's down to 256 and itll still sound great. thanks.
