"Reset Occurred" problem in Nero 6

Hi,
I cannot get Nero to burn on DVD+R or DVD-R on my NEC 6500A F/W 203a.
I can burn DVD+RW fine.
The error I get is 'Reset error occured' at varios points in the burn cycle.
I have tried Tesco -R (UME01) discs (I realise they are probably crap but to have had 6 fail on the trot suggests to me that it is more than a media problem), Imation -Rs and MR-DVD +Rs.
I have tried reducing the burn speeds but to no avail.
I have tried various firmwares for the NEC drive.
The disc image I am burning is held on a USB2 external HDD.

Thanks very much for that, I will give your suggestions a try.
The RW burn was also from the external HDD - my internal drive is very small (10Gb) so dont have the space to copy a DVD image onto it.

Ran the clearing software and updated Nero and it didnt really help.
I tried updating the ASPI driver from the Nero one in the Nero folder and the adaptec one in \winnt\system32 with frogaspi (www.frogaspi.org).
That seems to be working at the moment but have only burnt 2 CDs.
Will post again if it all goes badly again!
