Hi, ive seen alot of custom firmware releases out recently and im getting extremely excited. I was wondering if anyone here has tried modding their own? And on that note i would like you know if its possible to allow 2.71 firmware to run unsigned code? in which case wouldnt we just use 2.71 firmware instead of modded 1.5 stuff, and allow unsigned code to be run.. then (dare i say) we could all upgrade to 2.71 because downgrading again would be as simple as running a '1.5 alike' downgrader, not that we would need to because we could use homebrew on 2.71...

Im sure im not the only one thats thought about this and theres a good chance theres too many implications, obvious or otherwise, but from what ive seen (being able to load unsigned pbp's on startup by holding "left" d pad) it doesnt sound too crazy..

Cheers

(Also whilst im hear, would anyone happend to know why my devhook0.44 wont load "Cars" the disney game.. i choose that iso to be loaded but it just loads my game UMD allready in there)

Thanks again

nigga if i have to take of these head phones ima lay hands on you

What settings are you using in DevHook?

Well I've only seen one custom firmware release, but I might be missing something.

Well, thanks to Dark_Alex, now we can.

It turns out that if you change the flash, so that you rename your own ELF file to vshmain.prx, we can execute our own ELF on launch (i.e custom firmware). Only the brave, or those with UP Modchips will try and mess w/ this tho as it could easily brick your PSP.

Ive done it, its awesome. No more opening my UMD drvie, auto usb recognition, pic dumping, autoload devhoo, eliminates all corrupt icons, ability to overclock psp to 333/333/166. I love it, and am never going back.

yeh kewl.
Yeh i know custom firmware is possible, but i guess what i was suggesting is more, might we be able to remove the running unsigned code part of 2.71 firmware?
In which case we could install the 2.71 firmware straight to the flash memory becuase we'd be able to run unsigned code, aka iso launchers and everything we can run on 1.5 anyway.
:)
cheers

I really didn't enjoy this custom firmware as of yet. If doesn't do many things, but I'm sure there are big improvemnts up ahead. And only then I will think of installing it on my PSP.

@ evolve123:

So I guess you didn't enjoy:

*Faster transfer rates
*Ability to overclock v1.50 to 333MHz
*AutoUSB
*Screenshots at anytime/anygame/any app in v1.50
*Autorun directly into your fav app from HARD RESET, cutting about 35 seconds off of total boot time
*Making PSP faster and more efficient overall

*shrugs*

Well, I guess it's not for all of us...

@ SouIjah:

It's an experience you'll have to go thru for yourself to know what we're talking about. It's great tho. If you don't like it, you can always do an uninstall...

If you download it, PM me and I'll send you my preconfigured config.txt and some other features already set up (like modules) so you can get a quick demo. :p

All those things you can customize to your psp sound nice...but I have no idea where to begin when flashing my PSP, quite frankly im afraid of bricking it...Any suggestions on how to aquire the stats that was listed above, safely and have no problems what-so-ever?

Appreciate it.

I just PMd a friend of mine at another forum about this. One thing that will make you feel safe:

I flashed my PSP w/ this 3 times! TWICE by accident and ALL THREE times, my PSP was NOT plugged in. You run a higher risk of bricking your PSP if it's not plugged in, but since I was a n00b, I've been writing things to the flash WITHOUT the PSP plugged in b/c at first I didn't know, now I know, but I always forget! That's a YEAR's worth of writing to the flash w/o my PSP plugged in, all SUCCESSFUL. So if I can get away w/ doing this THREE times w/o it plugged in, I KNOW you will not have to worry doing it ONCE w/ the PSP plugged in! :)

If you do this, don't worry. I'll give you a link to my config files where everything is already set up, so you can get a great demo of how it's supposed to work. This will let you see how it works and it you want anything changed, I'll tell you how to change it. I'll tell you all the button combinations for shortcuts and stuff, too.

Lemme know if you decide to do this, homie...

Peace,
guano

EDIT: Once again, here's the link for the POC Custom FW, which you'll need to get started:

http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/639

here is the module: (all-in-one - AutoUSB, Screenshot mod, etc.)

http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=24557

The one you want is within the FIRST post. Don't get teh updated one, b/c it's not that great!

Guys, its not a big deal. I if corect, you flash one prx. I was worried to but its simple as hell, took like 25 seconds, nothing like downgrading. I suggest you do it, I know for sue Guano and I are happy as hell.

One bad thing though, the auto usb has a few bugs in it. After transfering an iso, the mem doesnt reflect the transfer, which is kinda lame, and if you accidentally close the psp window you have to resest the psp to get back into usv mode. noe bigge, because you never have to open the UMD drive again!!!

@ stang:

IDK if you know the fix for that, but all you have to do is unplug the USB 2.0 and then plug it right back in and w/e you put there will now show up.

Btw, I guess I didn't wanna admit it, but the whole PSP scene got kinda boring for me, too.

This has once again made me REALLY excited about the PSP. I still can't wait to see what's next. I GUARANTEE Dark_AleX is working on something brand new AS YOU READ THIS!!!!
