I have an athlon 64 3700+ san diego and a gig of corsair value ram. i want to overclock and I think I should get 2 x 1Gb ram kit. I was looking at the G.Skill ddr 500 at Newegg. It's only $180 bucks but money isn't a big factor. The timing on the ram is really loose so I don't know if it's a good choice. I'm a newbie with pc's so I'm not sure which is better: ram with loose timings and a huge overclock(2.8 ghz) or ram with tight timings and a lesser overclock(2.4 Ghz). Anyone know something about this or have some ram to recommend?

hi there, well ill start you off with some help here. First off you should try to stick with matched ram modules, what i mean by that is you shouldnt put a corsair with a G skill. Unless you have the new am2 sockets the ddr500 will not be supported on your board. You should stick with name brands on ram, like corsair, kingston, Geil is pretty decent. i would recomend getting maybe 2x1gb corsair ram modules. I dont know a whole lot about overclocking things, but i do know the lower the CAS latency is on the ram the quicker it will react quicker. I hope this helped or atleast some of it.

corsair would be a good choice but, getting more than 2 gigs of ram working on windows can be a problem.

that's so tru...i've never even theese days seen people with more than 2gb of ram,my pc can fit up to 4gb,and i was thinking of getting more...which i really don';t need at all,but never the less then i found out that for some or other reason if i put another 2gb in my pc will mess up...wtf? i'm making it better, but then it gets screwed...how odd...i'd probably be getting another 2gb when vista comes out....

WHAT? win xp runs fine on my sony vaio with 4gb of ram 1gb on each slot it doesnt mess up the pc it makes it faster!

anyways a huge overclock and loose timings would be better for encoding and stuff but for gaming a small overclock and tight timings ould make it faster

getting more than 4gbs to work can be a problem sometimes, but not always. also depends on things like ur proc, motherboard chipset, type of memory etc...
