Doesn't matter. DVD+R's book typed to DVD-ROM work better than DVD-R's on v.4 PS2's and later. However, if you're using 8x Verb's or TY's, they will both work equally well. DVD+R's are always gonna be more expensive online. DVD+R's booked to DVD-ROM are the most universally compatible format.

Well I use +R and have mostly working games. But since my burner can only burn +R I don't know about the -R.

Use -r. they run somewhat smoother and a little quiter than + but ones ps2 can differ when it comes to which one is better toward accepting - or +

HDL 0.8b, and a dying 40gb hd.

Quietness and smoothness has nothing do with +R vs -R, it has to do with media quality, whether your laser is dirty, etc. V.4 PS2's and later read DVD+R's booktyped to DVD-ROM better than DVD-R's. That's straight from KC36330, a pro modder and my own personal experience. I have 150 backups of TYG02/Yuden000T02, and they run equally well. Format doesn't matter nearly as much as quality.

It depends on your burner, your PS2 and the media quality.
I personally like 8X DVD-R the best as they have given me the best results. But my first burner could not booktype so i found a media that worked every time and stuck with it. Now i have one that can booktype and can use DVD+R with success as well, but i still prefer DVD-R as i forget to do the booktyping from years of not having to do this.
Verbatim and Taiyo Yuden would be my top 2 picks.
Supermediastore.com is a great place to get these for 2 reasons
1. very good prices
2. guarantee of 100% authentic discs

Philip's 8X DVD-R also worked very well for me for about 2yrs. But they are not as good a quality as the above.

Yeah supermediastore is sick. Sup Steimy, glad to see you around.

@Noamos You do have some type of mod, right? Are you using a modchip or Swap Magic? You need one or the other to boot PS2 backups.

It should tell you in whatever program you use to burn. Check a little more closely in DVD Decrypter, Nero, Alcohol 120%, or ImgBurn, it'll list what kind of burner you have.

Go ahead and try burning some games without worrying about Book typing. Book typing isn't 100% necessary, it's just a nice feature to have. There's a good chance your backups will work with the Verb's, even if there not not book typed.
