OK I am trying to burn a DVD. My folder consists of 2 VIDEO_TS files VTS_01_0 thru VTS_12_1
My Nero lists include Video_ts.bup, Video_ts.ifo and Vts_01_0.bup, Vts_01_0.ifo and three Vts_01_x.vob files for all twelve VTS's.
My question is how do you know which of these Vts files contain the actual material that needs to be burned?
Some seem to carry the exact same info as others. Some are much bigger files than others. Or do I really need to burn everything in the folder? In which case there is too much data to fit on one disc.
OK what I am really trying to do is backup or burn a DVD that came from Region 4? (Australia) and will not play in my Sony DVD player, and remove the Region restriction.
I have used DVD Decrypter, DVDFab Decrypter with no luck. Currently I have used AnyDVD, but am stuck at the burning point which I referred to earlier.
The disc is actually 2 seperate little films (The Syd Barrett Story & Pink Floyd)So I could actually burn 2 seperate discs if I knew exactly what was in each file, and remove the Region restrictions.
Thanks

Try DVD Shrink. It will compress the entire thing (keeping the menus). Or if you prefer, Re-Author it with shrink onto 2 discs.

I also have used shrink, and it asks the right questions, do you want to condense it to fit? Yes. OK it burns, disc still will not play. I still get the "playback prohibited by area limitations" message.
So I guess I am trying to burn this successfully, and at the same time learn about the DVD burning process itself. (Maybe a nice beginner?s guide)

what up Tease22? Try opening Nerovision Express, add your vts files to it,(they are usually the largest files within the set of you ts folder) If your still not sure play a few of 'em. They are the ones marked as VTS. When you see which ones you want add those to the nerovision menu section.
Also the files you want run sequentially (VTS_01_1, VTS_01_2) you know, You should have 2 titles for those 2 movies. If hop this helps you. if not hola back we can walk through it together ok. PM me(private messenger)..I understand I went through this before, with all said Im no master,YET lol.

When you click on the backup button on DVD Shrink, the second tab on the left is the one to make it region free. Check the Region Free box.

On the Nero side-Nero 7 does not have Vision Express, but maybe tomorrow we will try it again.

Is Australia PAL and your in a NTCS area? Or the other way around? Could be that is why your player is rejecting the disc.

I think Australia is PAL. I was able to find a code only to determine what region the Panny was set for. It came up with 1NN146. The NN means it is not capable of reading PAL.
I have to leave but what is the easiest way to convert PAL to NTSC?

Tase22, There are 2 programs off hand that I know will do that PAL to NTSC conversion. WinAvi Video Converter, and ConvertXtoDVD. I use the latest version of WinAvi.
On the Nero thing If you go to the start menu, then all programs, point to Nero and look in the Nero app's (choices of Nero) it will say NeroVision Express.

Firstly I would like to thank you Hittz26 for being so friendly and your willingness to help. So often the replies in other help type forums, lets just say are not so friendly.
dolphin2, the same applies to you and I appreciate it.
As I am currently at work, I am unable to try either of the programs.
I do already have ConvertXtoDVD installed, so I will try that first. Is there a special tab or option I need to look for?
I will keep you posted.

Dolphin2 may be correct in the sense that its the quicker and easy way(I ve never used those programs so im not familiar with those methods) but with convertxtodvd you would have to reencode the whole movie again to transform it to NTSC. It wouldnt be more than an hour though. The option to change the video format is under settings.( I dont have it installed at this time but I have used it to do this same job. (in no way do I mean any disrespect to Dolphin2 in any of the comments here, just sharing my experiences). Hope this helped some.

What's cool?
The patch?
I tried it, of course I ran into problems.
I followed the steps, but when I saved it did not override the files, it added backup files. So I tried to grab just the backup ones and burn in Nero, but I have was to much stuff for on disc.
I ran into other problems too. I will try again tonight. I am getting obsessed with getting this to work.

I think he was commenting on my statements.
When you use the patch method, be sure to look at all the lines within each IFO. Change them all. If you miss one line the DVD will report errors.

OK Well try to start from the beginning.
I used DVD Decrypter to rip to my Hard Drive.
I have VIDEO_TS thru VTS_12_0 in my Main VIDEO_TS folder. Is 12 VTS's unusual?
I opened IFOEdit.
Highlighted in upper pane VIDEO_TS
and changed every single line that had an aspect ratio per instructions. Then I clicked Region Free, then when I go to save VTS_12_0 is higlighted to save. Everytime. Should I still go to VIDEO_TS and save and then VTS_01_0 and so on.?

No, it isn't unusual. If you look at the example, there are 14 in that movie.
Yes. You must do each and every IFO. One by one. Do not skip any or miss any lines within them. Otherwise, you'll get errors.

I have another question.
Could the fact that there are 2 seperate movies on the on DVD be causing me a problem?
Is there an issue with my folder being 7.12GB?

I would load it into NeroVision Express (if you have ver 6, just NeroVision if ver 7) and add the files. You can then merge, add chapter stops, menus etc. You will have to adjust the bitrate till it fits on a disc (under 'More'-> 'Video Options'). My player doesn't like the IFOEdit hack.

just wanted to mention that i have a sony 5 disk dvd player and got the "playback prohibited by area limitations" error message when trying to play my first .avi to dvd conversion. using the error message in the search engine here at afterdawn led me to this thread. this was my first attempt to convert AVI to dvd, and i used the free older version of vso DivXtoDVD 0.5.2.99. originally thinking the error message meant the region code was invalid, i ran the resulting files through (variously) DVD Decrypter, dvd fab, VOB blanker, and fixvts. and the burned dvds still gave the error message in my stand alone sony player (they all worked fine on my computer). seeing this thread, i went back to the DivXtoDVD software and chose "force NTSC 29.97 Fps" where i had previously left it as "automatic". i can now see from the initial log looking at the AVI file characteristics that it was in PAL (stream#0 - video: 528x384, 23.98 fps). ran it through with the "force ntsc", burned it, works well enough... a very tiny lag on the audio, and of course as expected, the quality isn't anywhere near regular dvd, but good enough for what it is. just thought this might help any other newbie to this process in case they get that error message on their stand alone dvd player.
edit: typo re PAL fps

@surfgeo
Glad to see someone knows how to search and find answers. So many just start new threads. Refreshing to see someone take matters into their own hands. Thank you, you made my day and restored my faith.
