i recently started having problems with Nero recode and then tried a few other dvd copying softwares......well after trying and not getting anywhere with the new dvd copy softwares i went back and changed to AnyDVD..rather thatn DVD43 and that seemed to stop my errors from Nero recode and then i was successfull in copying quite a few more dvds that were twice as fast if not 3x as fast while encoding..... i then decided to delete the other dvd copying softwares and went back with Nero.... after deleting those programs it drastically cut the frames/per sec.....to about 50-100 and made it to about an hour long for just compilation after many successfull dvds that only took like 10 mins for encoding... i was wondering if anyone knew how i could recover the lost speed in encoding..... i remember that one of the programs said it would make something faster if i gave permission for DMA or something to take over... i do not remember what it was but if it helps plz let me know..

Hi mbrown916
Check all your drives DMA mode - make sure it's on. Here's a guide:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038

Also if you have the 'quality analysis' checked in Recode it will take longer. Does the encoding in 2 passes.

Check those and let us know how that goes.

Does it show Ultra DMA Mode & a # under current transfer mode in device manager?
If you are using nvidia or raid controllers Nero doesn't always report the tranfer mode correctly.
If you're unsure post your last Nero log (can also see if something else might be amiss) or a screen pic of that tab in info tool.
You can find your Nero log here:
Nero 7: Program files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory
Nero 6: Program files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory

Just be sure to edit out your serial # - usually begin w/ 1A,1C or 5C.
The logs are separated by something like this:
=====*** Nero Burning Rom History***=====
Copy and paste what's between the lst one.

I'm thinking you may need to follow the steps in the guide since another app (guessing dvdfab) reported a DMA problem.

ok you do have one drive in the slooow pio mode - this one:
device 0
device type: auto detection
transfer mode: dma if available
current transfer mode: pio mode

Use the guide above and follow the steps - that should get this drive back in DMA which should help the encoding time.

Let us know how that goes!
