Hey everyone, Last week I ordered kingdom hearts 2 (import from US).. I have a PAL playstation. So I either need a modchip or swap magic.

I wanne be able to play backups and import games without any trouble (And I dont use a HD)

What do you think works best?

And is it hard to backup ps2 games? (protection?)

matrix infinity all the way :) (I got one myself and I used to use swap magic, and I can tell you I would never want to go back to swap magic)

Backing up is fairly simple for most games if you got a modchip, have a look in my sig. there's a link to a tutorial on ripping/burning games

Matrix Infinity, no doubt about it.
I do not have one, but do have a DMS4 Pro modchip
and can tell you the differences between a modchip and Swap Magic
are night and day. The modchip wins hands down for many reasons.
Do not settle for one of those cheap-o chips either
Go with the Matrix Infinity (make sure it is genuine and not a clone!!!) or the DMS4 Pro SE

If you go for a chip, don't try to install it yourself. It looks easy but it's not. Get a professional to do it.

Personally I don't mind using swap magic.. have been using it for about 18 months now with no problems, I have to rebuild a few games etc, but that's it.. I generally only play one game at a time anyway, so only have to do the swap once each session (about 10-20 seconds slower than a modchip maybe) - but if you have the opportunity to get a modchip etc then yes it is the better choice as you won't have to rebuild many games(if any) and can direct boot the games as you would on a stock console.

If heard that a lot dvd media can ruin the ps2 laser.. Which DVD-R can I use best for burning backups on?

Atm I have a few imation DVD-R discs, are they any good?

watch your double post please :)

have a look in the sticky, there's one on what media to use. I say go with Philips/Sony (I know someone like steimy sticks with his philips if I remember correctly and never have problem with it). Or you could use taiyo Yuden or Ritek (I use these as it's the easiest to get where I am). Be sure to get 8x as well

I have installed my MI 6 months ago and it's awesome. 0 problems and its possibilities are unlimited. You won't regret.
I use Sony DVD+R media burned with my LG burner as DVD-ROM and they work as original games. I have also used a Verbatim DVD+R DL (bitsetted as DVD-ROM) to back up GT4 and it works perfectly.

Yeah just to echo everyone else's thoughts, I have an MI blue dot in my v.4 and it's super reliable. It's like the Porsche of modchips. DMS chips are really good, but a lot less stable than the MI, with more features built into the chip. The MI can accomplish the exact same things the help of homebrew. I would make the same choice 100 times out of a 100. Definitely use quality media. 8x Taiyo Yuden's or Verbatim's in either format are the way to go.
