I have a Asus P5GDC Motherboard, 1 GB RAM (I have another 3 slots empty so forget the RAM part because if I need more I can just buy more, in other words I don't have to replace my ram, instead I just add more..), ATI RADEON X600 PRO, Intel 630 (3.0 Ghz, 2 mb cache cpu), 420 watt power supply, 80 GB internal hdd+250 gb external (both Western Digital), 19" lcd monitor 2 ms response time (don't have it yet), dvd drive burns till 8x or 16x not sure but it is a LG drive+plus a drive that reads only cd's (does not write)+a cd burner, 5 fans (if fan on the graphic card and on the CPU is counted, it is then 7 fans), water cooling (when I have the money, in other words I do not have it yet), dial-up internet (I know, I should get broadband but I can't cuz im a minor..)
So, how long will my comp last (last=play games...it doesnt matter if it is at the games' minimum requirements as long as it works)? The CPU will last me a long time, right?...I say this because when it is obsolete, I can overclock it to 5 Ghz...right? That is why I have 5 fans and am gonna get water cooling...so bassically, I guess the most important thing for me to know would be, is my ATI RADEON X600 PRO good for games, and will it be good for at least 5 years or sumting?

5 years? maybe, but bet you 2 years along the line, we will be seeing 5Ghz processors, 500gb hdd, radeon X1000 Pro graphic card etc, i mean, you computer will still works fine, ie, playing games, online gaming etc, but you might consider upgrading again.
And most of the fans, including ur cpu fan, last for about 5 years at most, 7 years if you only use ur computer for about 2 hours a day.

btw, check out extremetech.com for a "money-no-object top of the range gaming rig" and that gaming rig is only future proof for 1 year, so 5 years? hard to tell

It's not "against the law" but I am 14 and I depend on my parents for the internet so...unless there is a way to buy a card at a store (like a long distance card but for internet) to get high speed internet (in other words, as long as I don't need credit cards etc) I can have high speed internet...

I know my PC will be low-end in five years but I just want to know, will it be able to run games at their minimum requirements?

ur not gonna get 5ghz outa a p 4 with water cooling, those things run hot at 3.8ghz
sure u can get 5ghz if plan on destroying your hardware, using nitrogen cooling.

Will there ever be a very good "ventilation system" for me to be able to overclock it to 5 Ghz? If that is unknown then what do u ppl think?

if u want to overclock a pentium 4 to 5ghz u need some vapochill it cost about 1,000 usd and some good very good ram

yeah...
why 5? i would just spend some money on a cheap duel core and over clock that bad boy.. u just want to be able to say "my computer runs at 5 gigahertz".. .its not that great, for a P4 that is....
P4 are not the best chip in the world by any means.. but they get the job done, and 5 gigahertz is stressing the point of the net burst architecture..

The P4 CPU was on sale at a very good price...that is why I have bought it...I always go for the best buy not the best CPU or cheapest CPU (in terms of price)...
Staying in the P4 area...the 630 was 130$ (canadian) cheaper than the 640!!...I wouldn't mind sacrificing 200 Mhz to save that much money, you ppl no wat I mean?

And the reason I said 5 Ghz is because I did the math and my 866 Mhz P3 can overclock itself to 1404 Mhz!..so according to that my 3 Ghz should be able to reach around 5 Ghz of clocking speed...am I right? Or do other "issues" such as the fact that CPU's today are hotter affect my "calculations"?

YEAH>> the P3 was a kick as architecture and is what the conroe is based on.... 5.0 is no use.. u are going to be worried everytime u turn on the damn thing. and you would need like a phase cooler or somthing..

First of all...wtf??? Why can't I overclock my CPU? (not that I want to...yet) Anyway there are many ways to make a CPU cool such as having 5 fans, watercooling, an external fan blowing on it and placing the comp next to a freezer simultaneously...but make sure that the freezer is well placed so that your wife/mom doesn't drop like say chicken on ur comp...lol
You don't have to buy an expensive product to cool ur comp...my dad cools his laptop in winter time by opening the bathroom window and putting the laptop in the bathtub (which takes the cold) and when I walk in the bathroom I am freezing!!! so is the laptop!!! it feels like it was food in the freezer!!!

i did not want a beef... all that i am saying is forget 5.0 like 4.5 is kick ass but 5? that is just stupid.. and i never said u cant overclock it... i just said that overclcoking to 5 is stupid..

we have a misunderstanding here fishnerd...I see what you mean...but you did not understand what I have said before...I will not overclock one shot to 5 Ghz but instead slowly following the progress/requirements of games...for example...I will first overclock to 3.2 Ghz then 3.4 Ghz gradually over the years it will reach 5 Ghz! Am I right or wrong?
P.S.
I'm not sure if it works like this but if I overclock it to 5 Ghz and my CPU has Hyper-Threading...it will be like I have a 2.5 Ghz Dual Core! (this has nothing to do with the message above)

it would be MUCH smarter to buy a pentium D 805 and overclock it to 4.1 GHZ which is stable

it isnt over but it just got more confusing since the core 2 duo clocked at 1.86ghz can beat my pentium d 930 clocked at 3.75ghz by 20% i just cant beleieve til the day i c it with my own eyes

How is that possible? Both CPU's are dual-core and both ur CPU has a higher clock speed...thats odd...
